Tampa To Become Gateway To Cuba

Tampa Bay Says No to Islamophobia

School yard bullying can take many forms. So Hillsborough County
school superintendent MaryEllen Elia and School Board chairwoman Candy Olson
are to be commended for standing up to the forces of bigotry and ignorance.
The pair on Tuesday rightly defended Steinbrenner High School history teacher Kelly Miliziano,
who recently invited a Muslim speaker to her classroom,
much to the narrow-minded consternation of local political gadflies, conservative activist
Terry Kemple and David Caton, executive director of the Florida Family Association.

Tampa Dentist Dr. Randall Diez

Dr Randall Diez gives free dentistry to the poor by sponsoring a Dental Emergency Day.
New York Times has reported that more and more Americans forfeit their health care visit to the doctor because of not able to afford their insurance co-payments. Neglected dental care can cause gum diseases and tooth loss and other health problems like heart diseases, liver diseases, diabetes, pregnancy problems like having still-born babies and pre-matured babies etc.
Help us spread this word about the Dental Emergency Day event to your friends, families and neighbors etc who could use some help in dental care.

GOP Set to Hand Florida’s Prisons to Corporate America

Florida Gov. Rick Scott and the Republican-controlled legislature are moving fast to privatize all 29 prison facilities in 18 counties in southern Florida.
Last year, the GOP prison privatization proposal was ruled unconstitutional because it was wrapped into a budget proposal, a violation of Florida laws that requires policy changes be in separate laws.

On January 10, 2012 Occupations from across the state of Florida assembled in Tallahassee for the first day of the Legislative Session. We marched from Occupy Tallahassee's home base at the Gaines Street Commons, then proceeded to enter the capitol. We marched through the Senate and House offices and then waited on the 4th floor outside the doors of the House chamber, where Governor Rick Scott eventually gave his State of the State address.

Martin Luther King - I Have A Dream Speech - August 28, 1963

I Have a Dream Speech
Martin Luther King's Address at March on Washington
August 28, 1963. Washington, D.C.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

The Lake House Tampa

The Lake House is a Christian intentional community in the Ybor Heights neighborhood of Tampa. We are here to learn how to live our lives based on what we value and believe. These values, when taken seriously, lead us to make changes to where we live, how we consume food, energy and other resources, and with whom we spend our time. Our blog is a journal of where this pursuit has taken us.
