Florida INC. Corporate Schools

Teacher Maria Sanabria of Orange Brook Elementary in Hollywood started a  fundraiser page to help pay for books, letter sets, and word games that she needs to teach her students. Teachers are  so underpaid, and Florida INC is spending taxpayers money on charter schools and administrators. So Sanabria is one of thousands of South Florida teachers who are waiting on more than $1.3 million from sites such as DonorsChoose, GoFundMe, and Adopt-a-Classroom to pay for everything from textbooks to jump ropes to robot-building kits.

Marco Rubio: Private Prison Operator

Few candidates in the country have gotten more help from private prison operators then Mr. Rubio. A Boca Raton based company, has contributed $30,400 to Rubio’s Senate campaign while their PAC gave $50,000 to the super PAC supporting Rubio. That’s on top of nearly $190,000 in support Rubio has received dating to his time as speaker of the Florda House, when Geo Group landed a major contract with the state, to his presidential run. here

The Keys Paying The Fox To Guard The Hen House

Monroe County commissioners, on record endorsing a freshwater storage area south of Lake Okeechobee to improve water flows into the Everglades, want to know where their paid lobbyist stands.
Commissioner Danny Kolhage said at Wednesday’s meeting in Key West that he would not vote to keep Tallahassee lobbyist Frank Bernardino’s firm on a county contract.
“They represent Big Sugar,” Kolhage said of the firm. “That’s an inherent conflict and I cannot vote for it.” here

Tampa DINO Bob Buckhorn

Local Democrats are giddy about their party's chances in the November election and it showed at the party's annual fundraising dinner this month.   Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, wasn't invited to speak, nor was he last year. There has been tension between the mayor and local Democrats over a number of issues — his tendency to support or work with Republicans such as Attorney General Pam Bondi and Gov. Rick Scott, his lack of enthusiasm for engagement with Cuba and his defense of the Tampa Police Department in its targeting of black bicycle riders. Some local Democrats say Buckhorn's disagreements with constituencies including civil rights activists, unions and liberals could doom his 2018 hopes.  here

Cubans And Mexicans Coming To The Coast Of Florida - Not Good!

A few hundred miles from the west coast of Florida is a 7,700-square-mile area of the Gulf of Mexico known as the Eastern Gap, thought to be rich with oil but with no clear owner.
The U.S., Cuban and Mexican governments are now negotiating how to split the area among the three nations. Once that happens, each country can drill for oil in its allotted portion. here

Elizabeth Belcher: MacDill Ferry Was A Better Idea

The first proposal: South Shore to MacDill
The second proposal: Tampa to St.Pete
So guess which one our "brilliant" commissioners select. The second, of course. It is a test to see if the ferry could be a viable option, i.e., be able to pay for itself. I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but this really smacks of a plot to ensure the ferry proposal is a failure. The commissioners will then be able to point to it as an excuse not to fund ferries. rere

Pam Bondi Your Prayers And Apologies Are Flaccid, Empty Words

Pam Bondi proclaimed that anyone targeting gays would be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law. You know, the same Pam Bondi who fought ardently against my being able to marry the man I love. The same Bondi who fought against my being able to adopt. The same Pam Bondi who, along with cronies Governor Rick Scott and Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, have fought against protecting my rights, and for allowing people to fire me just because I’m gay. here
