If Ballots Don't Work, Bullets Will

An Open Letter To Joyce Kaufman

The following is an open letter to WFTL-850 FM radio host Joyce Kaufman, whose incendiary political rhetoric included a Tea Party rally remark that, "If ballots don't work, bullets will.

Press Gets An A++” For Being So Obedient

Rick Scott met with the Capitol press corps for the first time since his swearing-in on Tuesday and before the governor even reached the podium Scott’s spokesman laid out some new rules. Brian Burgess told reporters that the days of chasing the governor out of his large conference room into the antechamber that leads to his private sanctum are over.

Ed Turanchik's Platform

Rehab foreclosed homes. Hold the line on taxes, fees and cost-of-living raises for city employees. Deploy surveillance cameras in crime-ridden neighborhoods. These are policy planks in the mayoral campaign of former Hillsborough County commissioner and builder Ed Turanchik. He touts it as the most substantive yet offered by any of the six candidates for mayor.

Mr. Turanchik, everything sounds great, except the Big Brother in neighborhoods idea.

Republicans Actually Reading The Constitution

It will cost taxpayers over $1 million dollars for Republicans to recite the entire United States Constitution on the House floor.

Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said on Tuesday that his party plans to cut $100 billion in spending this year. GOP leadership has said cuts to the US defense budget are out of the question, making key safety-net programs like Medicare, food stamps and Social Security the sole target of their legislative agenda.

Yet.....According to a 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll released on Monday. Sixty-one percent of Americans polled would rather see taxes for the wealthy increased as a first step to tackling the deficit.
The next most popular way to tackling the deficit chosen by 20% was to cut defense spending.
Four percent would cut the Medicare government health insurance program for the elderly, and 3 percent would cut the Social Security retirement program.

How do these clowns get elected?

We Are Not So Dumb After All

According to a 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll released on Monday.

Sixty-one percent of Americans polled would rather see taxes for the wealthy increased as a first step to tackling the deficit.

The next most popular way -- chosen by 20 percent -- was to cut defense spending.

Four percent would cut the Medicare government health insurance program for the elderly, and 3 percent would cut the Social Security retirement program.

Asked which part of the world they would fix first, the largest proportion of respondents -- 36 percent -- chose Washington, compared with 23 percent who picked the Middle East and 14 percent who chose Haiti.

Who the hell are the four percent that would cut Medicare for the elderly?

Kelly Benjamin Voices Support For Bicycling In Tampa

I grew up in Tampa risking my life riding my bike. I remember when HARTLINE first started the bikes on buses program and I eagerly waited in line to purchase my bike pass. During college, I mastered the art of defensive riding as I made the commute from my home in Ybor City to USF and back through suitcase city, Sulphur Springs, Seminole and Tampa Heights. I know bike riding in this city. I still ride my bike daily throughout the Heights.

Florida is among several states now holding what are called "no refusal" checkpoints.
It means if you refuse a breath test during a traffic stop, a judge is on site, and issues a warrant that allows police to perform a mandatory blood test.
