GO Hillsborough Meeting Today In Temple Terrace

One of our last chances

"Good luck with that," That’s what one Tribune columnist said about Commissioner Hagan talking about a balanced transportation referendum for more options.

It’s a dare. Some think we won’t stand up to make sure we have options.

We need to make it loud an clear to every doubter, naysayer, and tea party insider that it’s time to work together to create new transportation options for everyone. This is one of our last chances to be heard. Come out tonight for just 15 minutes:
Don't let these corporatist Republicans ruin our future.
If you Dems would of voted Pat Kemp would be in office and we would not be dealing with Higginbotham. No one even ran against Hagan.

Shifty Florida GOP Ken Hagan exploiting term limits loophole

Commissioner Ken Hagan, a Republican, said he hasn’t ruled out leaving his countywide District 5 seat midterm to run next year in his old north-county District 2.  By switching back to his home-district seat, Hagan could avoid being forced out of office by term limits in 2018 and start a new clock — one that would allow him to stay on the commission
until as late as 2024. here

“I don’t think anybody ever thought about that when we wrote the law,” said former Commissioner Jan Platt,
one of the authors of the charter.

Brand GOP: Victor Crist and Al Higginbotham

Two years ago hundreds of people demanded that we start the conversation on transportation, the commissioners responded by creating Go Hillsborough to find out what the public wants.
The number one selection of 16 categories: transit.

Yet, two Commissioners
Victor Crist and Al Higginbotham
told the Tampa Tribune they intend to derail the Go Hillsborough public input process before it’s over. What's worse the public proposal isn't line with what citizens have already asked for: there is ZERO transit included.

County Commissioners, We join others in asking you do three things:
1) Keep your promise and listen to the public: they want a balance including transit
2) Work with other leaders to come up with a transportation proposal for all citizens
& for future generations
3) Stop trying to derail the process by making proposals before it is over

Hillsborough County Tea Party Leader Sharon Calvert

In an email sent to voters yesterday she asks them to fill out a form to send a stern message to officials in Hillsborough County. “Let your Hillsborough County elected officials know that it’s still “NO” on having an 8% sales tax in Hillsborough County,” Calvert wrote. here

Oregon voter turnout was 69.5 percent, and Democrats won BIG and Marijuana was legalized

More results
  • Despite a huge Koch cash dump, liberal Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley re-elected in a landslide.
  • Despite a relentless smear campaign by the state's largest (but shrinking) newspaper, Democratic Governor John Kitzhaber re-elected to an unprecedented fourth term.
  • The Democrats' state House majority expanded.
  • The Democrats' state Senate majority expanded by the critical seat that will neutralize a conservadem who had been gumming up the works, with a second possible pickup still too close to call.
  • Marijuana easily legalized.
  • An equal rights amendment resoundingly passed.

Corruption In Hillsborough County

The federal government says Hillsborough County misused almost a million dollars in grants during its "Fight the Blight" campaign and it wants the money back. The inspector general of the Department of Housing and Urban Development released a scathing audit of the county's use of federal Community Development Block Grant money for these blighted areas. The audit shows serious problems in the department resulted in
developers being helped by almost
$1 million
 instead of low-income areas.
The audit says code enforcement cleanups like
the "Fight the Blight" programs in 2012 and 2013
were actually misusing the federal money in surrounding areas not qualifying as low-income neighborhoods. The county used the money on areas that were "industrial and commercial properties,"
"farm and vacant land" that were "planned for development" and
"new construction in residential properties.
because commissioners wanted to ensure
developers didn't have to pay
impact fees.
