Monthly market the Indie Flea arrives at 1920 Ybor City this fall

The Indie Flea brings together dozens of the best food vendors, makers, artists, florists and more for a monthly market. It will officially return to Tampa in historic Ybor City at the newly opened 1920 club (1920 E 7th Ave) November 2023-April 2024. The event is free to attend and will be held the second Sunday of each month. 1920’s first Indie Flea takes place November 12. Indie Flea organizers have announced that applications are now open for vendors.....MORE

Suicide rate hits all-time high in US last year


About 49,500 people took their own lives last year in the U.S., the highest number ever, according to new government data posted Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which posted the numbers, has not yet calculated a suicide rate for the year, but available data suggests suicides are more common in the U.S. than at any time since the dawn of World War II.

When will hurricane season pick up?


FOX 13 Meteorologist Jim Weber says there is hardly a cloud in the sky in the Caribbean. He says there are no signs of anything developing in the tropics in the near future. According to Weber, the dry Saharan air that is working its way across the Atlantic is keeping things quiet in the tropics over the next week. He does caution that things may pick up as we head into September.

Tampa opens cooling stations amid 5th consecutive heat advisory


Another heat advisory is in place for the Tampa Bay area on Friday, the fifth in a row. The heat index is forecast to exceed 110°F at times, with highs in the 90s.

To help people stay cool, the City of Tampa is opening three cooling centers. The centers will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sunday.

NOAA upgrades 2023 Atlantic hurricane season forecast to above-normal activity


The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association’s Climate Prediction Center updated its forecast for the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season on Thursday, now predicting an above-normal level of activity. The update is the third increase in storm likelihood and is predicated on the presence of record-warm Atlantic sea surface temperatures.....MORE
