USF's Summer Plant Festival


Attention everyone with a brown, dead, backyard—plants don’t have to die in the summertime. For one day only, experts, including more than 30 commercial growers and local clubs from throughout the state, will prove it at University of South Florida’s Botanical Gardens during the school’s summer plant festival.

USF's Summer Plant Festival happens at the Tampa campus' botanical gardens on Saturday, June 15 and costs $10.

The United Nations human rights office says war crimes may have been committed by both Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups during an Israeli raid on Nuseirat in central Gaza last week.

At least 274 Palestinians were killed during the raid on Saturday, according to Gaza health officials, as Israeli forces rescued four captives held in Gaza for more than eight months.

Dumbing Down: It’s not just test scores: Kids are losing developmental skills


The survey by Education Week showed 94 percent of teachers of young children say their students have a challenging or much more challenging time listening and following instructions. Eighty-five percent said their kids are struggling more with sharing and cooperating with their peers.  

In terms of fine motor skills, 77 percent of educators found young students are having greater difficulties handling pencils, pens and scissors, while 69 percent saw their charges struggling to tie their shoes at higher rates than five years ago.
