What authoritarian regimes often do is ‘flood the zone,’ or do so much at once that you feel paralyzed. It's important to understand that the shock you feel right now is the point, Glen.
We can flood the zone with people.
The Trump administration is currently trying to get their nominees approved. No Democrat should be voting to advance Trump's nominees while this is going on.
There has to be a political price to pay. We have a responsibility as a party to block everything while they're setting a literal match to the federal government. And we need to be a pain in the ass.
Do not assume that your Senator is not going to vote for these nominees, if you are a person that has a Democratic Senator. Give them a call. Keep calling.
Tell them, “I do not want you to vote to advance or approve any of these nominees while all this stuff is going on.”
In the House, Republican members that are in districts that Biden carried in 2020 do care what you think and how pissed off you are.
These are things that they can lose elections over. If we start sending the message that they can now, then we can start getting some traction.
If you have a Republican representative, you should be making a phone call. They need to know you are paying attention. They need to know that you are pissed off. If they don't think that you're pissed off, they're going to go faster.
If you think government is like a George Foreman grill, and you can just set it and forget it — I regret to inform you that is not how participatory democracy works.
We have to lock in, and start getting people quaking in their electoral boots.
Even if your call makes them think twice, it is effective. Use our leverage. Make them fight for every single step.
The slower they go, the less they can break.
In this house, we jiggle every door handle to find an opportunity. You have got to try a hundred times, sometimes, to make one work. It's worth it.
In solidarity,
Alexandria
