He also said Palestinians would not have the right to return under his plan for US "ownership" of Gaza - contradicting officials in his administration who said they would be relocated temporarily.

Letters from an American: February 9, 2025

On Friday, President Donald Trump issued an executive order “protecting Second Amendment rights.” The order calls for Attorney General Pam Bondi to examine all gun regulations in the U.S. to make sure they don’t infringe on any citizen’s right to bear arms. The executive order says that the Second Amendment “is foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans.”

DARK GOTHIC MAGA: How Tech Billionaires Plan to Destroy America

29min51sec

A look into how the tech leaders may be using the new administration to achieve their own agenda. Looking specifically at Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, Marc Andressen, Ben Horotwitz, Brian Armstrong, and David Sacks as well as their relationship with figures like JD Vance, Balaji Srinivasan, and Curtis Yarvin. There is a focused discussion on how a shaping of the government might take place based on convergences between the ideas of Yarvin, who influences the tech libertarian right, and Project 2025, who have authored a playbook exclusively for President Trump to help with his transition to power.

The Resistance Is Rising

Maya Miller of the New York Times reported today that the congressional phone system has been jammed with tens of millions of calls from outraged constituents contacting their representatives to demand that they stand against President Donald Trump and his sidekick Elon Musk as they unilaterally dismantle the United States government and gain access to Americans’ private information.....MORE

FLOOD THE ZONE WITH PEOPLE

What authoritarian regimes often do is ‘flood the zone,’ or do so much at once that you feel paralyzed. It's important to understand that the shock you feel right now is the point, Glen.

We can flood the zone with people.

The Trump administration is currently trying to get their nominees approved. No Democrat should be voting to advance Trump's nominees while this is going on.

There has to be a political price to pay. We have a responsibility as a party to block everything while they're setting a literal match to the federal government. And we need to be a pain in the ass.

Do not assume that your Senator is not going to vote for these nominees, if you are a person that has a Democratic Senator. Give them a call. Keep calling.

Tell them, “I do not want you to vote to advance or approve any of these nominees while all this stuff is going on.”

In the House, Republican members that are in districts that Biden carried in 2020 do care what you think and how pissed off you are.

These are things that they can lose elections over. If we start sending the message that they can now, then we can start getting some traction.

If you have a Republican representative, you should be making a phone call. They need to know you are paying attention. They need to know that you are pissed off. If they don't think that you're pissed off, they're going to go faster.

If you think government is like a George Foreman grill, and you can just set it and forget it — I regret to inform you that is not how participatory democracy works.

We have to lock in, and start getting people quaking in their electoral boots.

Even if your call makes them think twice, it is effective. Use our leverage. Make them fight for every single step.

The slower they go, the less they can break.

In this house, we jiggle every door handle to find an opportunity. You have got to try a hundred times, sometimes, to make one work. It's worth it.

In solidarity,
Alexandria

Hong Kong’s post office continues to suspend packages for US as it seeks clarification over tariff

Trump administration is gaming Google to create a mirage of mass deportations

The U.S. has seen high-profile immigration raids since Trump took office, but Dara Kerr of The Guardian today reported that the Trump administration “is gaming Google to create a mirage of mass deportations.” On January 24, 2025, old online press releases from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from as much as a decade ago were updated to make Google prioritize them as new releases, thus creating the illusion that raids are taking place all over the country. When The Guardian asked ICE and Google about the changed dates, some of the new dates disappeared, dropping those stories out of the top of search results.....MORE

Unions sue Trump administration over USAID shutdown

Unions representing government employees sued the Trump administration Thursday evening to block efforts to shut down the government’s independent foreign assistance agency.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) launched a full-scale assault on the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) over the weekend, shutting staff out of internal systems and placing thousands on administrative leave.

America knew Trump was a snake before we took him back in

“They are who we thought they were,” NFL coach Dennis Green famously said, in full meltdown mode. But his words could just as easily apply to President Trump, Elon Musk and the parade of Republicans who have unleashed so much chaos these last few weeks.

If you’re watching Musk gut USAID like it’s a Black Friday sale, or Trump going full Bond villain on Gen. Mark Milley, or appointing white supremacists like he’s assembling an evil Justice League — I get it. I do. But don’t act surprised.

Trump and Netanyahu hold talks as US president warns ‘no guarantees’ fragile peace in Gaza will hold

President Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are set to meet Tuesday as the Israeli prime minister faces competing pressure from his right-wing coalition to end a temporary truce against Hamas militants in Gaza and from war-weary Israelis who want the remaining hostages home and the 15-month conflict to end.

Trump is guarded about the long-term prospects for the truce, even as he takes credit for pressuring Hamas and Israel into the hostage and ceasefire agreement that went into effect the day before he returned to office last month.

BREAKING: AOC celebrates Trump's decision to rescind his failed freeze on federal grants

BREAKING: Democratic star Congresswoman Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez celebrates the Trump administration's decision to rescind its failed freeze on federal grants — and puts it in the proper context.

This has MAGA frothing with rage…

"This is Trump’s first major loss. When we fight, we win," AOC wrote on X.

"We may not have majorities in the House and the Senate, but we DO have the power to loudly educate and mobilize against the mass looting the Trump admin is attempting against our veterans, healthcare, education, and more," she added.

This is the simple truth of the matter. Republicans are not unstoppable. Donald Trump is a deeply incompetent president who has no understanding of the federal government he’s been entrusted with leading.

His mistakes and poor decisions will multiply by the day and by the time the mid-term elections roll around American voters will be clambering for a reprieve from MAGA governance.

Democrats must seize every opportunity we have to oppose this corrupt, cruel, and stupid regime.

Did DEI D.I.E.? Welcome to a new kind of 'civil rights' era

The new Trump administration is using the language of civil rights but flipping it on its head. If 'diversity' is now being coded as discrimination, what does that mean for the future of civil rights?

Brittany Luse of NPR is joined by Columbia Law professor Olatunde Johnson and Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Wesley Lowery to look at how the Trump administration is dismantling federal diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and how private businesses are following suit.
