Wrapping up their own investigation on the Jan. 6 2021 Capitol attack, House Republicans have concluded it’s former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney who should be prosecuted for probing what happened when then-President Donald Trump sent his mob of supporters as Congress was certifying the 2020 election.

The findings issued Tuesday show the Republican Party working to reinforce Trump’s desire to punish his perceived enemies including Cheney and members of the Jan. 6 committee that the president-elect has said should be in jail.....MORE

U.S. House of Representatives Passes Dangerous Legislation That Threatens Civil Society


Amnesty International USA criticized the passage of H.R. 9495 in the House of Representatives, which threatens the freedom of speech and work of U.S. civil society organizations that document human rights abuses around the world. Amnesty International urged the Senate not to advance the bill, which was previously voted down in the House last week.....MORE

US House fails to pass anti-NGO bill that could target pro-Palestine groups


Legislators in the United States House of Representatives have voted down a bill that would have granted the Department of the Treasury broad authority to revoke the tax-exempt status of nonprofits deemed to be supporting “terrorism”.

On Tuesday, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, or HR 9495, failed to reach the two-thirds majority needed in the House to pass.

Emmer wins GOP Speaker nod, but lacks votes on floor: Live coverage


House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (Minn.) emerged Tuesday as the Republican conference’s nominee for House Speaker as the chamber tries to elect a leader. It took five rounds of votes to get to consensus.

Emmer beat House Republican Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson (La.) in the final round.

But it almost immediately became clear he didn’t have 217 votes to take to the House floor yet.
