On Wednesday, the Florida Supreme Court heard arguments in a challenge to a 2021 law that enhanced penalties and created new crimes during protests that turn violent.

Groups including the Dream Defenders and NAACP argue that the law was enacted seemingly in response to the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.

Jacksonville's racist past seemed to be losing its hold. But the racist killing of three Black people was a painful and startling reminder.

By some measures, Jacksonville was making strides to emerge from its racist past. But the killing of three Black people by a young, white shooter was a painful and startling reminder that the remnants of racism still fester in the Florida city.

SHAME: Only Black students at Florida school were singled out for bad test scores, report says


Parents at one Florida elementary school are upset that only Black students were singled out for bad test scores, regardless if they were below-average, average, or above-average, according to a report.

Black students at Bunnell Elementary in Flagler County were reportedly called into an assembly Friday and lectured about consequences of not being successful, according to WESH. The students were allegedly told if they’re not successful, they could end up killed or going to jail.

Florida has been the epicenter, targeting critical race theory and opposing AP African American studies.

Extreme views adopted by some local, state and federal political leaders who try to limit what history can be taught in schools and seek to undermine how Black officials perform their jobs are among the top threats to democracy for Black Americans, the National Urban League says.

A controversial higher-ed bill, the companion to HB 999, advances in the Florida Senate


A measure designed to carry out parts of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ higher-education agenda moved forward Wednesday in the Senate, after changes that included a proposal to give university presidents ultimate hiring authority at their schools.

The Republican-controlled Senate Education Appropriations Committee voted 8-4 along party lines to approve the bill (SB 266).
