DeSantis quit lying about Gillum

Ron DeSantis, who has had about as much human contact with the great unwashed of the state as the Unabomber, has suggested Gillum would impose a state income tax if he won. The beefcake boy of Fox & Friends also has hinted Gillum has a soft-spot in his heart for child molesters, based on something
 Gillum has never said.

NRA Sellout Adam Putnam: Opie of Open Carry

If you want to get elected to office in Florida, a politician is obligated to grovel before the great and powerful National Rifle Association, which views Tallahassee as a wholly owned subsidiary
 of its interests.
-----
Adam Putnam is currently Florida's Agriculture Commissioner. He's also a Republican candidate for governor and a self-described "NRA sellout."
-----
He thinks it's a swell idea it is to permit gun owners to carry their little friends on college campuses, as well as endorsing proposals to allow the open carry of weapons in public places.  That the protest against the NRA is merely "a classic progressive move.
-----
The NRA thinks that more citizens need to be locked and loaded because the nation is on the cusp of a violent revolution that it hinted former President
Barack Obama is leading.
------
Opie tweeted about how he's proud to be an #NRASellout and even created a petition on his site encouraging anyone who is also an
#NRASellout to sign.

Florida GOP Richard Corcoran Tammany Hall

Corcoran is more ethically challenged than Charles Dickens’ Fagin, as he presides over Tallahassee’s Artful Sammy Glicks in the endless pursuit of power and money. But the Daddy Warbucks of the capital doesn’t come cheap.
-----
Benefiting from the Republican Party of Florida’s accounts as well as his political committee, Watchdog PAC (really, that’s its name, stop laughing).
-----
Corcoran has blown through $11,000 for dinners at the chi-chi Morton’s steakhouses, another $15,000 at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse and (belch) $29,000 at Tampa’s Capital Grille, not to mention $8,000 dropped on a single supper at the hotsy-totsy French Laundry eatery in California. Did that include an after-dinner mint? And what have we learned? Apparently the speaker likes steak, with a side
order of hubris.

Daniel Ruth And Asher Edelson On Bob Buckhorn

“Bob Buckhorn has been a good mayor of the city. And he is a good man. But...” Daniel Ruth
-----
"I completely disagree — he has not been a good mayor, and if he is a good man, why include the “but” ...unless the two preceding sentences were meant as sarcasm, considering how corrupt and misogynistic the man has proven to be. I have heard stories of this dude yelling at female peers, and seen how little he’s done for Tampa outside the beautification of downtown. I will not be in the city come 2019, but I am excited to see an actual good mayor in the office."

Tanja Vidovic And The Good Old Boys At The Tampa Fire Rescue Department

They tried to shut her up. They tried to make her go away. They made her life miserable. Yet Tanja Vidovic — persisted.
-----
Her sin? Wanting to be treated with civility, professionalism and respect.
-----
She was just awarded $245,00 in her federal lawsuit against the city of Tampa. They could of simply cut Vidovic a check, give back her job and fire the dolts who caused her so much grief. Instead, the city went ahead to trial.
-----
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn has a dark, almost irrational, blindside when it comes to courting the first responder community. For years, Buckhorn has failed to hold Tampa Fire Rescue accountable for its tawdry historic and systemic mistreatment of women within its ranks. here

The Marco Rubio Rescue

We'll probably need Sarah McLachlan warbling a few bars of Angel to get through this public service announcement in support of "The Marco Rubio Rescue" organization. Won't you please help find our poor, beleaguered and homeless junior senator a new Tampa office? Just a few pennies a day could make all the difference. here

Florida's Culture Of Corruption: Pam Bondi

"Pam Bondi is the John Henry, Walter Payton and Steve Jobs of the nation's attorneys general. All work, work, work, work. Burning the midnight oil. Leaving no stone unturned. Taping her eyes open to stay awake filing those legal briefs, preparing closing arguments, researching the intricacies of the law."

Daniel Ruth Already Defeated

"Although work to make our lives more miserable isn't scheduled to start for a couple of years, there is growing community opposition to TBX, which while an admirable display of civic activism, probably will come to naught." Daniel Ruth

Florida GOP: Tammany Hall South

Were plenty steamed over being slapped around by the state Supreme Court
for attempting to cook the electoral books.
How dare the Florida Supreme Court!
How dare these justices do their jobs!
Oh, the oppression of it all!
Just how far out of touch with reality are they?

"We are under direction by a court that continues over and over again to exceed their constitutional authority."

That onerous provision guaranteeing the public ought to have access to open government, violated his right to speak freely to his legislative colleagues?

Rick Scott, The Great Environmentalist

Reader alert!
You are about to enter the mother of all spit-take zones! Do not under any circumstances consume any liquids! Face away from any walls! Avoid looking directly at any children, pets, friends or spouses! here

"What group of pandering serfs would conclude that a governor who can't find the Everglades on a map, much less protect it, would be worthy of being designated an environmental savior?"

Hillsborough County GOP Corruption

The Fox Guarding the Hen House
"The one essential advantage Dougherty had for the EPC gig was an intensive lobbying campaign on her behalf by influential business and development interests. In the real world, if powerful business and development types were aggressively pushing for their choice to lead an agency charged with protecting the environment from business and development concerns, one might well conclude such naked special interest arm-twisting would be a disqualifying factor. In Hillsborough County, such wheeling and dealing leads to a coronation."

Rick Scott: Florida's Culture Of Corruption

Scott,  rejected $2.4 billion in federal transportation money to develop a high-speed rail line between Tampa and Orlando. The architect of Scott's opposition to high-speed rail was Adam Hollingsworth, then an adviser to the governor on transportation issues. Hollingsworth then went to work for Parallel Infrastructure, a company owned by Florida East Coast Industries, which also owns All Aboard Florida, the project to develop a private rail line between Miami and Orlando.
"The state has no involvement in this railway."
Pay no mind the $1.5 billion federal loan that All Aboard Florida wants.
Avert your eyes from the more than
$250 million in state money
that has been set aside for projects that will assist this train. Ignore the $44 million in direct state-funded grants the company plans to seek.
It could end up costing us $1.8 billion
here
This happens when a self-deluding governor has his chief of staff book a seat for him on the Last Train to Cronyville. Tallahassee is truly a mystical place.  Daniel Ruth

Local Views: Florida's Culture Of Corruption

Maybe you are one of those 1 million low-income Floridians who are uninsured and were just informed by the Florida Legislature that if you get sick in this state, buster, you're pretty much on your own. And that's why House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Simon Legree, stuck to his guns in rejecting $51 billion in federal Medicaid funding over the next 10 years, which would have covered those medical moochers. After all, there are more important things state government should be doing with taxpayer resources — like allowing utility companies to gouge customers for nuclear power plants that don't work and/or will never be built.

Sweet deals are business as usual in Florida government
John Romano
Citizens Property Insurance Corp. will never win any popularity contests, and here is another reason why. The state-run insurer's board narrowly decided Wednesday to give away $52 million to a new St. Petersburg insurer with no track record and questionable leadership. Gov. Rick Scott, who defends this corporate welfare, and Citizens board members keep finding more ways to hurt consumers.

Terry Kemple: A Crime Against Sanity

As a Hillsborough County taxpayer the thought of someone who is anti-Muslin, antigay, antiknowledge and even antimatter sitting on a government body charged with educating our community's children would be a crime against sanity. Terry Kemple on the School Board would visit a plague of demagoguery on the body politic. His term would be a fractious, disruptive, moveable feast of Bible-thumping, self-righteous hectoring and faux Puritanical preening. This will be Kemple's third bid to get on the School Board. Now you would think if you had run twice before and the voters had previously suggested they would rather shove shards of broken glass up their eyes than allow you to serve in public office.

Best Little Whorehouse in Tallahassee

Daniel Ruth: Sugar daddy kisses for Scott
Rick Scott has been a busy politician on the make, collecting an average of $50,000 a day, or $4.6 million in re-election campaign donations from deep-pocketed Republican sugar daddies.
