SCOTUS to hear first case on transgender care for minors


Arguments for the landmark case will be the first time that the conservative-majority court will weigh in on the legality of gender-affirming care. 

The lawsuit’s outcome could have far-reaching consequences, potentially impacting laws passed in more than two dozen Republican-led states banning medications used for gender-affirming care like puberty blockers and hormone therapy for transgender kids and teens.

A GOP lawmaker introduces a Capitol bathroom rule before her trans colleague arrives


Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina is defending a measure she recently introduced that would ban transgender women from women's bathrooms in the U.S. Capitol.

It is unclear if the effort will get a vote or if rules in the Capitol will be changed,+ but the move comes just two weeks after Democrat Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender person elected to Congress.

Transgender regret? Research challenges narratives about gender-affirming surgeries


You’ll often hear lawmakers, activists and pundits argue that many transgender people regret their decision to have gender-affirming surgeries – a belief that’s been fueling a wave of legislation that restricts access to gender-affirming health care.

Evidence suggests that less than 1% of transgender people who undergo gender-affirming surgery report regret. That proportion is even more striking when compared to the fact that 14.4% of the broader population reports regret after similar surgeries.

Supreme Court Refuses Maryland School Case Challenging Policy To Hide Students’ ‘Gender Identity’ From Parents


The Supreme Court declined Monday to consider a case challenging a Maryland school district policy that hides information from parents about their child’s “gender identity.”

Under the Montgomery County Board of Education’s guidelines, parents deemed “unsupportive” will not be told if their child is undergoing a “gender transition” at school, according to court filings.

Florida banning changes of gender on driver’s licenses sparks confusion, backlash


Sasha Buchert, senior counsel and director of New York-based Lambda Legal’s Non-Binary and Transgender Rights Project, said Florida is the first state she has heard of prohibiting people from updating the gender markers on driver’s licenses to match their gender identity.

“This just creates this really harmful situation where people are going to have to walk through the world without an ID that matches who they are,” said Buchert, who is transgender.

Senate passes bill banning gender-affirming care for minors and limiting it for adults


Florida is one step closer to establishing a permanent ban on gender-affirming care for minors and placing hurdles in the way for adults who want the care.

The Senate voted 27-12 to advance a bill (SB 254) that would codify rules passed by the state’s two medical boards to ban the procedures for minors. The bill would also codify a Medicaid rule banning reimbursement for the procedures for people of all ages.
