DeSantis has turned Florida into MAGA Central

DeSantis has governed like an extremist. He’s stoked racial animosity. He’s disregarded the 73,000-plus Floridians who have died from COVID-19. He’s scapegoated LGBTQ youth. He’s forced the state Legislature to cede power to him in the redrawing of congressional districts that likely diminish Black representation. He’s got autocratic tendencies, inflicting revenge on anyone who dares to disagree.

Planning A Florida Trip?

If you’re thinking about traveling to Florida for the beaches and theme parks as restrictions ease this summer, you might want
to think again.
According to a May 7 editorial in the Miami Herald, the state’s own top medical examiner is calling Governor Ron DeSantis’ latest attempt to hide information about coronavirus testing
 a “sham.” HERE

Miami Herald columnist Fabiola Santiago

In a since deleted tweet she insinuated that re-opening beaches in Florida would “thin out” President Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis supporters “who value money over health.”

“Packed beaches should work nicely to thin the ranks of Trump/DeSantis/Gimenez supporters in #Florida who value money over health,” Santiago tweeted.

Democrats Just Don’t Have a Clue

You often seem terrified of alienating voters who do not embrace you, while discounting those — such as immigrants, African Americans, LGBTQ and, yes, progressive whites — who do.
-----
You made yourselves look feckless, spineless and brainless in the process. You’d said you would not vote to fund the government until the GOP acted to save DREAMers — from deportation. Three days later, you folded like a baby stroller, accepting a deal in which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell expressed only his “intention” to take up the legislation you want.
-----
According to Debbie Wasserman Schultz you won, “the potential for momentum.”
-----
The truth is closer to what GOP Rep. Mark Walker of North Carolina told Politico: “We gave them nothing.” For that matter, it’s even closer to what Denzel Washington said in “Malcolm X:” “You been had! You been took! You been hoodwinked!”
-----
Frankly, you could stand to be more petrified of your own base especially since the political left is having itself a moment unlike anything we’ve seen in almost 50 years. People are marching and raising money. Upstarts are running for office. The left is galvanized by a
fierce new energy.

The Opa-locka Mob

In the past three years, thousands of dollars has been paid to prominent city officials. FBI tapes have exposed an organized network that turned the levers of government into a cash generator for themselves and others, the Miami Herald has learned. here

Florida's Fresh Water Crisis

Touted as an environmental breakthrough, the water policy bill passed last week by the Florida GOP Legislature is actually a major win for polluters and the politicians they own. The plan allows Big Ag operators to supervise their own waste releases, which is a fantasy come true for those who pollute.

Sympathetic legislators went even farther, inserting in the law a “cost-share” provision that directs water-management districts to use tax dollars to subside Big Ag’s anti-pollution efforts.

In other words, the public will be paying farm corporations to do something they should pay for themselves
— clean up their mess. here

Steve Crisafulli, whose dream of one day becoming state agriculture commissioner is closer to reality. The Brevard Republican has been an obedient little soldier for the special interests that divert and exploit the state’s fresh water supplies.

Serial Bride Pam Bondi

Her marriages, divorces, and out-of-wedlock relationships are her business – not state business. But it’s hypocritical of this serial bride to use sanctimonious arguments to try to convince a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union and SAVE on behalf of gay and lesbian couples seeking to have their out-of-state marriages recognized in Florida. more>

Florida's Zombie Apocalypse Bill

The Tampa Bay Times has called it
“the bring your gun to the riot bill.”
The Miami Herald
called this bill “crazy” and says this bill is the “Zombie Apocalypse bill comes to life.”
Jeff Brandes, is sponsoring a bill that would allow gun owners to carry a concealed weapon during a civil emergency, riots, hurricanes, floods and of course zombie apocalypses, whether they have a permit or not.  As Tom Germond from Tampa Bay Newspapers asks, “Who came up with this idea? Yosemite Sam?”
