Children's Board of Hillsborough County report shines light on community needs


The top three critical needs of parents and children in Hillsborough County are mental health support, affordable housing and child care.

That is the takeaway from the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County’s recently released report on a series of town hall community meetings and a countywide survey.

We need action on the youth mental health crisis, not more talk


The statistics on youth mental health are not only alarming but deeply frightening for anyone who has children or cares about them.

According to a 2021 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey, 44.2 percent of the participating teens reported that they had experienced persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. Almost 20 percent considered suicide — and 9 percent attempted suicide.
