“Send Them to Jail”: GOP Officials Keep Saying Trump Can Arrest People for Protesting
When Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, he made a solemn pledge.
“After years and years of illegal and unconstitutional federal efforts to restrict free expression, I also will sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America,” he declared. “Never again will the immense power of the state be weaponized to persecute political opponents.”

Shadow president Elon Musk and his DOGE boys are upending Washington, laying waste to federal agencies and deploying law enforcement to break into the nonprofit Institute of Peace. Consumer confidence is in the toilet, inflation is threatening a resurgence, and the country is possibly headed for a self-inflicted recession. But never fear! The president will be hard at work this weekend, forcing taxpayers to subsidize his New Jersey golf club while he works on his backswing. more

The State Department has reportedly launched a new effort using artificial intelligence to help identify and revoke visas for people the government deems to be supporting U.S.-designated terrorist groups, based primarily on the individuals’ social media accounts. “Foreign students are running scared,” says Patel. She also notes that while “AI-driven sounds really fancy,” the process is more likely to be a basic keyword search prone to “rudimentary mistakes.”

World Israel threatens Gaza's residents with "complete destruction" if Hamas doesn't hand over hostages
Israel's defense minister threatened earlier this week to open "the gates of hell" in Gaza if Hamas refuses to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's demands, and Israel has been delivering. At least 58 people were killed in a third consecutive night of airstrikes up and down the Palestinian territory, bringing the death toll to an estimated 500 people since the ceasefire was shattered with Tuesday's shock pre-dawn Israeli missile barrages, according to the enclave's Hamas-run Ministry of Health.
"Residents of Gaza, this is a final warning," he said in a video broadcast Wednesday afternoon. "If all the Israeli hostages are not released and Hamas is not eliminated from Gaza Israel will act with forces you have never known before. Take the advice of the U.S. President. Return the hostages and eliminate Hamas, and other options will open up for you — including going to other places in the world for those who wish. The alternative is complete destruction and devastation."
Less than 2% of the Palestinian populatiom support or identify with the Hamas organization.

The dream of keeping climate change to within 1.5°C (2.7°F) has taken a major hit. The latest climate report by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has confirmed that 2024 was likely the first calendar year to have a global temperature more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The global mean near-surface temperature last year was approximately 1.55°C (2.79°F) above the 1850 to 1900 average, making it the warmest year since records began over 175 years ago, according to the WMO’s State of the Global Climate report.

Twenty-two years ago, the Israeli military killed 23-year-old American activist Rachel Corrie by running her over with a Caterpillar D-9R bulldozer while she was standing in front of a Palestinian family’s home in Gaza to prevent its demolition.
Since Rachel's death, Israeli soldiers have killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and numerous international activists. The brutal oppression of Palestinians, the very reason Rachel went to Gaza, has only intensified. Today, her parents remind us that she would have continued to passionately advocate for global solidarity with Palestinians if she were still alive.
