Florida Call For An Investigation Into The King Ranch Scandal
Gov. Scott and his legislative allies have allowed sugar industry polluters to foul the Everglades and stick taxpayers with the tab to clean up their mess.
Is it a mere coincidence they've done this while accepting expensive hunting trips to the exclusive King Ranch in Texas on Big Sugar’s dime? It’s time for Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to quit her partisan antics and get to the bottom of the King Ranch political scandal that has engulfed Gov. Rick Scott and the Republican Party. here

Investigate the 2012 death of Mr. Darren Rainey
On June 23, 2012 Darren Rainey, a 50-year-old mentally ill state prison inmate in Miami-Dade County, died after guards responded to his defecating in his cell by locking him into a 180-degree shower for two hours—at which point his skin was separating from his body.
Local police, and the state, failed to properly investigate. The case was only brought to light in recent months by The Miami Herald. After two years, no one has been held criminally accountable, or even charged.
"He was crying, please stop, please stop, And they
just said "Enjoy your shower, and left."

Tampa Bay—21 Years Ago this Month
On August 10, 1993, three vessels, the freighter Balsa 37, the barge Ocean 255, and the barge Bouchard 155, collided near the entrance of Tampa Bay. Over 32,000 gallons of jet fuel, diesel, and gasoline and about 330,000 gallons of heavy fuel oil spilled from the barges. Despite emergency cleanup efforts, the oil fouled 13 miles of beaches and caused injury to birds, sea turtles, mangrove habitat, seagrasses, salt marshes, shellfish beds, as well as closing many of the waterways to fishing and boating. here

More Florida GOP BS
Rick Scott has tirelessly touted the evils of the ACA. After it was projected that premiums in the state could go up by 13.2 percent for the 2015 enrollment year, Scott said in a statement that
“Obamacare is a bad law that just seems to be getting worse,” and “Florida families are going to be slammed with higher costs. Obamacare has failed to live up to its promises in nearly every way.”
Scott didn’t bring up that he and his Republican-controlled legislature have done everything they can to make sure that the ACA fails in Florida. here

End the Cuban Trade Embargo
On June 14th, President Obama sent a letter to the Cuban President Raul Castro, indicating that he wanted to negotiate the end to the Cuban trade embargo. While President Obama does not have the power to terminate this policy, I do applaud his efforts to normalize relations with Cuba because I too believe that the United States should end the trade embargo on Cuba. here

Florida GOP Ana Alliegro
Alliegro is charged with funneling about $80,000 to an unknown Democratic congressional candidate, Justin Lamar Sternad, who was running in the 2012 primary for the chance to challenge GOP incumbent Rivera in Florida's 26th congressional district. Prosecutors say Sternad, a low-paid Miami Beach hotel clerk with no political experience, was a ringer candidate intended to smear Democrat Joe Garcia, who is much better known and ultimately toppled Rivera in the general election. here

How We Git-R-Done In Rick Scott's Florida
A month after Gov. Rick Scott took a secret hunting trip to the King Ranch in Texas last year, he faced a big decision. A seat had come open on the board that oversees Florida's efforts on the multibillion-dollar project to repair damage to the Everglades caused by agriculture. To fill that position, Scott picked a corporate executive named
Mitchel A. "Mitch" Hutchcraft.
Hutchcraft's major qualification for a seat on the board of South Florida Water Management District: He is the vice president in charge of the King Ranch's Florida agricultural acreage. here

United for Care Responds to Florida Police Chiefs Association Lies
The latest press release from the Florida Police Chiefs Association urging
caution on medical marijuana legalization appears to be a test case in shoddy,
unattributed research, incomplete data, outdated information and the expected
misleading and disingenuous conclusions. The truth is that studies suggest
medical marijuana laws have not led to higher crime rates, increased traffic
fatalities or greater teenage consumption in those states that have adopted
them. here
Florida GOP to blame for health insurance rate hikes
The state is not doing its job to protect consumers from health insurance rate hikes. After passing up billions of dollars from the federal government for the state to expand Medicaid, Gov. Rick Scott and the Republican-controlled Legislature callously enacted a new law that, in essence, prevents the state’s insurance commissioner from regulating health insurance rates. here
