Sarasota school board votes to reject new Title IX guidelines, potentially risking funding
The Sarasota County school board voted 4-1 Tuesday night to reject the federal government’s new Title IX guidelines, potentially risking funding.
Last month, the Department of Education issued the new guidance, which expands Title IX protections to transgender students, among other changes. Less than one week later, Governor Ron DeSantis said Florida would not comply with the new rules.

Our guests on Tuesday Cafe oppose the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the financial connections of USF. Saba Indawala and Victoria Hinckley from Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society have been demonstrating at the University of South Florida.
Hinckley was a guest on WMNF’s True Talk last week and we learned that she was suspended just before graduation because of the demonstrations.

What we know about the ‘outside agitators’ being blamed for campus protests
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, several college and university administrators across the country, and some law enforcement members have blamed "outside agitators" for the disruption in now weekslong pro-Palestinian protests on campuses across the country.
But the outside agitator narrative is a tried and tested police tactic, [Justin]Hansford [executive director of the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center at Howard Law School] said. "You have to make their protesters bad before you can expect the public to accept a really violent action against them," said Hansford.

High school students joined in the pro-Palestinian protest on UW-Milwaukee's campus Thursday as the encampmment entered its fourth day.
