Organize Florida, a community-based, nonprofit member organization dedicated to the principles of social, racial, and economic justice for all, enthusiastically announces its endorsement of Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum for Governor of Florida. This year’s gubernatorial race may be the state's most critical, and we support Gillum’s stance on women and families, healthcare, immigration, raising the minimum wage and criminal justice.
As Governor, Gillum would support the state legislature ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment. He believes in equal work for equal pay and would push for equal pay legislation that levels the playing field for women in the workplace. When Governor Rick Scott and the Republican legislature tried to defund Planned Parenthood, Gillum opposed any attempt to make it harder for women to access quality healthcare.
He believes healthcare is a fundamental right, and he will fight the new health care premium increases and the attack on Obamacare. Gillum will work to expand Medicaid, strengthen the Affordable Care Act and has proposed passing a law protecting people with pre-existing conditions from being denied coverage. He will work to reform our bail system, which disenfranchises people of lower economic means,.
“Andrew Gillum understands the critical issues facing women and families, the working class and marginalized communities in our state,” said Debbie Soto, president of the board of Organize Florida. “He is a compassionate and dedicated leader who is unafraid to challenge the powerful and do the right thing for all the people of Florida - no matter what they look like. He shares our values and we are so excited to support his candidacy for Governor of Florida.”
