Litbrit: Five Wild Things

First and foremost, I am compelled to say that Where the Wild Things Are, which I watched through a membrane of memory and tears, is a masterpiece....Deborah Newell Tornello

Litbrit Is Two

Exactly two years ago, I typed out the introductory post for my very first blog. Back then it was called The Last Duchess after a favorite Browning poem; later, I decided to use my online nickname, litbrit, which was simpler and far better known around Left Blogistan......more

Best Local Blog: litbrit

She’s progressive. She’s a hottie. And she is a major Frank Zappa fan, posting little-known clips of the late composer-rocker on her blog each Friday. So what’s not to like about Litbrit, aka Deborah Newell Tornello. The 47-year-old Gator grad started her blogging career as a commenter/contributor to Shakespeare’s Sister, the nationally known progressive outlet......here

Litbrit Venting On Twitter

While awake at 3 am, watching that horrible ongoing chemical fire at the #Arkema plant in Crosby, Texas, I decided to create a little information thread on Twitter, since the press are getting EVERYTHING wrong.here

The Rodney Dangerfield Blog

I am not a writer, my thing is in photography. my mom gave me a Kodak Brownie for Christmas when i was 6 years old and after many Nikon's later i am still at it. The nest few paragraphs were a struggle, so please be kind. I read with great sadness the other day Ben Kirby's post about putting his great blog The Spencerian on hiatus, possibly forever. he mention in his post the disappointment he felt when he wasn't listed on the Washington Post's The Fix blog.
By the way, they just updated their list of best state blogs, and The Spencerian didn't make the cut.  I'm not particularly pleased with their Florida list, but I don't want you to think this is about being bitter.
Peter Schorsch of St.Peters Blog mention that he hopes this wasn't the staw that broke the camels back. I don't want to sound bitter myself but if that was the case with the Stogie my camel would of been on the ground along time ago. I started this effort  back on March 19, 2003. First as a website thanks to Wayback Machine you can see what it looked like here) and then as a blog in May of 2006. For some reason, (maybe i wasn't someones idea of what a blog should look like). it took the Stogie along time to get accepted. Some bloggers did help me out and put my link on their blogrolls (Litbrit, Out In Left Field, Tampa Do-Gooder, Finding Tampa, Pushing Rope stc.) I remember how proud i was when Ken put me on the old Florida Progressive Coalition blogroll.
Let me not forget madfloridian who gave me a link and who now also writes for Daily Kos where she also gave me a link. (How cool is that?) I never get mentioned in any Best Of Blogs list. including the one Mr. Kirby is talking about. And as far as awards go, I  finally won the Netroots Award for Best Local Blog of 2011 and that was only becouse Mr. Kirby and especially Mr. Schorsch sent their support my way. If not i would still be Award-less (Is that a word?). So for me it has never been about lists or awards and i hope that is the case with the talented Mr Kirby.
My daughter has Instructions to post my obituary, when you see it, that will be it for me.

Litbrit Will Not Fall In Line

They chose their nominee over a year ago, probably long before that. They were never going to let him win. But Bernie Sanders made an enormous, important, life-changing difference in our politics, at both the national level and the personal one--he moved me to become an American citizen; he moved my husband and sons to become Democrats. We will be leaving the party after the August primary in Florida, as we've committed to vote for Alan Grayson, and we will. At this point, we are leaning toward voting for Jill Stein in November. It is not about purity. It's about integrity. Robert and I agree that we can't in good conscience raise our sons to act and believe and behave in certain ways, and then turn around and support a candidate and a party whose actions reflect an ethos in direct conflict with same.
Watching Bernie walk out with his people a few minutes ago, after moving to suspend the rules and hand over all his delegates, my heart broke all over again (it broke good and hard the first time, when I watched his glum, gun-to-the-head "endorsement" two weeks ago, and again when I learned recently that he may have been threatened with the loss of important Senate committee standings if he did not endorse before the DNC this week). It broke not just for Bernie and Jane, but for my family and me, and for you. Even you who are enthusiastically supporting Mrs. Clinton. Because surely, having seen even a fraction of the evidence showing media and DNC collusion, of stacking the deck for a preferred candidate against the other three--in direct conflict with the party's by-laws--you cannot be happy with the way it went down. Yes: I'm sorry for you, too--sorry that your candidate won this way, just as I'm sorry about her Iraq vote, the harm her work at State brought down on dear little Honduras and broken, drone-attacked Yemen, and so much more that I've tried to talk about with you on my tiny little social media platform, even as many of you attacked me for being a "purist" and others (now long gone) accused me of being stupid, naïve, and even a right-wing operative. here
