Florida What’s So Bad About Fracking?

Besides leaking methane under and above ground, which makes people sick (ask Los Angeles), wasting millions of gallons of valuable water (ask California), causing earthquakes (ask Oklahoma), contaminated waste water no one wants, explosions that kill people (ask lots of places), there is one more big effect of fracking: undisclosed toxic chemicals put into our earth. here
----------
The current bills in our Florida legislation purport to “regulate” fracking, but as one representative stated, it is nothing more than a “welcome mat” to
promote fracking.

Florida Frackers: Counties Fight Back

Dozens of Florida cities and counties oppose a plan to give the state control over the oil and gas exploration process known as fracking. Two Republican legislators, Rep. Ray Rodrigues of Estero and Sen. Garrett Richter of Naples, have proposed bills that would give the state authority to regulate oil and gas exploration, production, processing, storage and transportation. here

The Battle To Keep Florida Frack-Free Is Intensifying

Fracking became an issue last year after Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) revealed that the Dan A. Hughes Co. had fracked the Collier-Hogan well in Naples, despite regulators telling it not to until the agency had a chance to thoroughly review the company’s plans. Shortly after the news broke, the move to ban fracking in Florida began. here

Dade City Bans Fracking

Fracking
It’s a dirty word in Dade City if you go by a city commission resolution that advocates banning the practice in Florida.
Loud applause greeted the board’s decision.

Fracking Coming To Florida

A bill that would create a new regulatory structure in Florida for oil and gas drilling, including the controversial practice known as "fracking," easily passed a House panel Tuesday despite roughly 50 environmentalists on hand to oppose the measure.

The House Agriculture &
Natural Resources Subcommittee
approved the bill.

Filed by Rep. Ray Rodrigues, R-Estero,
and Rep. Cary Pigman, R-Avon Park,
on a straight party-line vote of 9-4. here

Florida Frackers Not Giving Up

Bills that would allow energy companies to frack in Florida died last spring, when the regular legislative session imploded over health-care issues.
But they’re back.
The two Republican lawmakers who sponsored the legislation, Sen. Garrett Richter of Naples and Rep. Ray Rodrigues of Estero, have filed new bills (SB 318 and HB 191) that would amend state laws on the exploration and production of oil and gas in the state.
----------
Democratic lawmakers, meanwhile, have put forward their own bills to ban fracking. The legislation (SB 166 and HB 19) is sponsored by Sens. Darren Soto of Orlando, Dwight Bullard of Miami and Jeff Clemens of Lake Worth and Reps. Evan Jenne of Dania Beach and Lori Berman of Lantana. Going a step further, Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Parkland, wants voters to consider banning fracking through a constitutional amendment.

Rick Scott’s GOP Propaganda

His public relations event on Pine Island touting our “pristine waterways” was yet another feeble attempt to convince the public that he and his policies are making Florida a better place to live. The supporting cast of Representatives Matt Caldwell, whose legislation is frequently a gift to big sugar, and Ray Rodrigues now sponsoring legislation to remove home rule on oil and gas fracking were there singing the same tune.

Florida Wants To Ban Fracking Bans

Big Oil is at it again. Their allies in the legislature are trying to ban cities and counties from either regulating or banning fracking.
HB 191 and SB 318
would deny local communities the ability to regulate fracking would not only stop proposed rules going forward, but be retroactive and eliminate rules already in place. Take action by signing the petition and tell the Florida Legislature to reject HB 191 and SB 318. Communities should be able to protect their land and water from fracking.

Florida Frackers

File bills that would prevent communities from regulating fracking.
----------
On Sept. 17, Sen. Garrett Richter, R-Naples, introduced SB 318 (aka, "Regulation of Oil and Gas Resources"). The bill summary is completely blunt about what it's proposing: "Preempting the regulation of all matters relating to the exploration, development, production, processing, storage, and transportation of oil and gas."
----------
Meanwhile, over in the House, Rep. Ray Wesley Rodriques, R-Fort Myers, filed a bill the same day that would do essentially the same thing as SB 318. Rodrigues' bill, HB 191, declares that it's the state's job to regulate all things relating to the oil and gas industry, "to the exclusion of all existing and future ordinances or regulations relating thereto adopted by any county, municipality, or other political subdivision of the state.

Florida Frackers: Garrett Richter

Oil and gas drillers are pushing bills, cloaked as protections, to expand fracking in Florida. The Florida panther, its habitat and our water supply are all in danger. We must act now to protect our state from the ravages of fracking.
Contact your legislators and Governor Rick Scott today, and tell them
to kill the bad fracking bills!
