Highlights

The place was packed. They had to use the overflow room. Over 30 people asked to speak. They cut the time from 3 minutes to 1 minute because the board didn't want to be out all night. Everyone spoke against it, except one old guy who is getting paid or doesn't care about the future of his children. Lisa Montelione was late. Speakers kept giving others their minutes.

  And the highlight of the night was when a speaker asked the crowd to stand if they were against it, and the entire audience rose to its feet, applauding wildly.

As a candidate for the Hillsborough County Commission last year, Republican Al Higginbotham promised to support a sales tax for transportation projects if it was approved by a city-county board called the Policy Leadership Group.

The leadership group voted 8-3 to recommend that the county commission put a half-cent-per-dollar sales tax on the November 2016 ballot. Higginbotham voted against the measure. More importantly, Higginbotham said he will vote against holding the referendum when the commission makes a final decision in December

Write The FWC: No More Black Bear Slaughters

Florida's bear hunt – authorized and championed by Gov. Scott's Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) - was a dark day in the history of our state.

Gov. Rick Scott’s Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) just completed their cruel and widely condemned Florida black bear hunt, and it was an unmitigated disaster. They were forced to end the hunt early after the state’s quota of 320 bears was nearly met in just two days. In the eastern Panhandle nearly triple the state’s quota of bears for that region were killed.

These numbers don’t even account for the orphaned bear cubs that will be unable to survive without their mothers, or the injured bears left to die in the forest, or any illegally killed undersized bears that went unreported. Unbelievably, despite this horrific debacle, Gov. Scott’s Fish and Wildlife Commission is already planning the next black bear bloodbath. Email the Fish and Wildlife Commission and demand they call off future Florida black bear hunts. here
