YBOR CITY CHICKENS

CENTENNIAL PARK 2018 DEC 7

Remember Bush And The Texas Rangers?

The city spent $150,000 on an advertising campaign to persuade voters. Opponents of the deal couldn’t compete with glossy brochures, telemarketing calls, and a “Hands Around Arlington Day.” On Jan. 19, 1991, citizens of Arlington voted two-to-one to approve a sales-tax increase dedicated to building
the new park.
Between the sales-tax revenue, state tax exemptions and other financial incentives, Texas taxpayers handed the privately owned Rangers more than $200 million in public subsidies. Taxpayers didn’t get a return from the stadium’s surging new revenues, either. The profits went almost exclusively to the team’s already wealthy owners. here

Vintage Rooster 2326 E 7th Ave.

"Ybor City is one of our favorite spots to spend a weekend — and it’s about to get a whole lot better courtesy of a new recurring weekend-long shopping event. The Vintage Roost is a 5,000 square foot market featuring 18 vendors offering items imbued with their own distinctive vintage flair. This DIY-inspired concept is setting up shop in the heart of the city.

We’re always here for more ways to shop local and support Tampa makers and entrepreneurs. So, we’re kind of blown away by the opportunity the Vintage Roost presents to residents, especially as the holidays approach.

Located at 2326 East 7th Avenue, the Vintage Roost takes place the 2nd and 4th weekends of each month. It will run from 9am-8pm on Friday, 9am-5pm on Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sunday."

Florida Keys unlawfully detaining and nearly deporting a U.S citizen

"The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced Monday that it had filed a lawsuit in conjunction with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) against a Florida sheriff’s office for unlawfully detaining and nearly deporting
a U.S citizen.
Peter Sean Brown was born in Philadelphia and has lived in Florida for the last 10 years. According to the complaint, Brown reported to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in April for violating his probation for a low-level marijuana offense and was subsequently detained longer than was required at the request of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE believed Brown was a Jamaican undocumented immigrant of the same name, and was intent on deporting him. Despite his repeated pleas that he was a U.S. citizen with a birth certificate and a Florida driver’s license, Monroe County jail officers told him he was being sent to a country he had only been to once on a cruise."
