A Letter From Roy Disney

You and I have something in common — we both believe with all our hearts in LGBTQ+ equality.

My wife, Sheri, and I have been members of HRC for over 20 years. Equality matters deeply to us, especially because our child, Charlee, is transgender and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Every human being born into this world has an equal right to be … to be who they are and to be accepted and cherished completely and unequivocally for who they are. We love our children exactly as they are and without judgement.

We were heartbroken when Ron DeSantis signed the “Don’t Say Gay or Trans” law in Florida. The fight isn’t over, and we are determined to do everything we can to stop this from happening in other places.

It is simply despicable that state legislators and governors are using fear and lies to rally their base … trying to erase LGBTQ+ youth from school and sports, flat-out telling transgender and non-binary youth that they don’t belong, and revoking the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

It is a scary time for LGBTQ+ people, especially the youngest ones. But, I know that HRC is doing everything possible to make our country more equitable and safe for the next generation — and Sheri and I are proud to help.

Thank you so much, Roy Disney

Disney Donates Big To Florida GOP

The Walt Disney Co. is betting big on Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam. Since 2015, Disney has given $400,648 to Florida Grown, a committee supporting Putnam, but has also donated $70,000 to a committee run by state Sen. Jack Latvala and $35,000 to a new committee set up by House Speaker Richard Corcoran. U.S. Sugar Corp. and Duke Energy have given to Putnam, Corcoran and Latvala’s committees,
as well.
----------
Disney’s donation to Corcoran could be considered surprising since the speaker led a blistering battle against the state paying their advertising bill.
----------
Disney and other companies haven’t given anything to the three major Democratic candidates already in the race.

Disney Donates A Quarter Million To Rick Scott

Florida Gov. Rick Scott's presidential candidates summit earlier this month in Orlando happened in large part thanks to Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts. New campaign finance records show Disney donated nearly a quarter million to Scott's Let's Get to Work political fundraising committee on June 2, the same day the Republican governor held an Economic Growth Summit held at a Disney hotel that drew some of the top GOP candidates for 2016. here

The Citrus Taliban Protest 'Gay Day

Several Religious Right groups are protesting Disney's annual 'Gay Day' at their theme parks. The Florida Family Association has two airplanes flying banners in English and Spanish over Central Florida, warning people to avoid Disney World because there will be people “promoting their various alternative lifestyles.” The Christian-advocate group One Million Moms claims Gay Day “is planned with the intent to expose and desensitize children to this lifestyle by
same-sex couples holding hands, hugging and kissing.”
In their e-newsletter, One Million Moms states: "How would you feel if you entered the Magic Kingdom anticipating a normal day of fun with your family only to witness thousands of same-sex couples holding hands, hugging, kissing and wearing tee-shirts that promoted their lifestyle?"

Cash is good no matter where it comes from. Walt Disney World merchandise shops are preparing for the upcoming annual Gay Days event at the Magic Kingdom. Shops within the theme park are featuring red shirts with rainbow-colored Mickey Mouse heads, as well as rainbow mugs, wallets and more.
