When Did Our Democracy Die?

When did it irrevocably transform itself into a lifeless farce and absurd political theater? When did the press, labor, universities and the Democratic Party—which once made piecemeal and incremental reform possible—wither and atrophy? When did reform through electoral politics become a form of magical thinking? When did the dead hand of the corporate state become unassailable?

Florida CS/HB 1355

Think voting is too easy now? If you do, the Florida Legislature is on the case to make it much more difficult. If Republican leadership in the legislature has their way this will be Florida’s reality. A sweeping elections bill (CS/HB 1355) that is being fast-tracked through the GOP-controlled legislature would, if passed, trample democracy and impact Florida’s elections in devastating ways.

One Of America's Worst Governor?

There are a lot of shitty governors in America right now!
And to nobody's surprise, they're all Republicans.
Rick Scott was once the CEO of Columbia/HCA, a massive hospital chain. The federal government fined Columbia/HCA for Medicaid and Medicare fraud. That fine, a jaw-dropping 1.7 billion dollars, is the largest in American history.

But instead of going to jail, Rick Scott became the governor of Florida.

Rick Scott vs. The People Of Florida

Governor Rick Scott's proposed budget would cut funding for public schools, lay off thousands of state workers, and give corporations a $1.5 billion tax cut. But worst of all, Republicans in Tallahassee are pushing a permanent, across-the-board funding limit that would prevent
the state from ever restoring these draconian cuts.

Wisconsin showed that the people are not going to let corporations and their allies on the right trample the American Dream without a fight. Now we have to send that same message in Florida.
