Tampa Right Wing Attacks

Tampa tea party founder Sharon Calvert and conservative activist Sam Rashid have been relentless in their attacks on the Go Hillsborough transportation initiative, suggesting that rampant cronyism influenced the spending of $1.35 million in public funds.
-----------
But when county sheriff’s investigators last year asked Calvert and Rashid for evidence of wrong-doing, the critics came up empty. “Investigators asked if they had facts to support their claims and allegations but they had none to provide,” investigators said in records released Monday. here

sanctions for Commissioner Sandy Murman

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and State Attorney Mark Ober found no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing in how county staff, commissioners, and private consultant Beth Leytham acted in the months leading up to the selection of Leytham's client, Parsons Brinckerhoff, for the lucrative "Go Hillsborough" project. But the report corroborates 10Investigates findings that Leytham made a habit of influencing decision-makers behind the scenes.
And Ober suggested sanctions for Commissioner Sandy Murman - and training for other commissioners - over non-criminal public records violations. here

Alan Grayson: Justice For Andrew Joseph III

In February of 2014, 14-year-old Andrew Joseph III from Riverview was killed as he tired to cross Interstate 4 on foot after he was ejected from the Florida State Fair
 in Tampa.
Alan Grayson met with Andrew’s parents  in Tampa and said he would pursue the Justice Department to investigate the tragic loss of life. On Thursday, Grayson followed up on his promise, penning a letter to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch calling for both
a Justice and FBI investigation. here
----------
Grayson notes that this is the same Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office that provided security for the 2012 Republican National Convention and the 2009 Super Bowl. “It seems unfortunate that the same force could not provide adequate security for ‘Student Day. “I’m going to be honest with you – the idea of taking a 14-year-old boy, dropping him off out of a car from where he was, with no practical way to get back in touch with people, to get to any place of safety, seems like inappropriate conduct,” Grayson told reporters inside the Bricks of Ybor.

Local Hero Officer Christina Ammons

I would like to thank the Florida Voices for Animals group for inviting me to be a guest of honor at their 22nd annual "HAVE A HEART FOR ANIMALS" meeting. I was awarded the "Animal Hero Award" and the group made a donation to the Shrimp Docks Kitty Rescue Project which was awesome! I met a great group of people who are completely dedicated to preventing the exploitation and abuse of all animals. This group is also involved with activities which benefit children and others in need as well as the betterment of our environment . I had a wonderful time and want to thank this great group of individuals for all that they do! here

business As Usual For David Gee

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office did not formally discipline any of its employees in the aftermath of a disastrous series of misjudgments that left a jail inmate going nearly 36 hours without treatment for a fatal stroke, agency officials said this week. Allen Daniel Hicks Sr., 51, was arrested in May 2012 by the Florida Highway Patrol after crashing his car into a guardrail on Interstate 275. Confused and unable to use the left side of his body, he was booked into the Hillsborough jail system and spent much of the next two days sprawled motionless on the floor of a cell. Hicks was finally sent to Tampa General Hospital and diagnosed with an ischemic stroke after a jail nurse found him lying in his own urine. He died from the stroke in August 2012. This year, the Sheriff's Office and Armor Correctional Health Services, the private contractor that handles prisoners' medical care, paid Hicks' heirs $1 million in a wrongful-death settlement.

"To Protect And Serve

Allen Daniel Hicks Sr
Poor guy, he has a stroke on I275 in Tampa and pulls over. When the the cops show up instead of calling EMS they pulled him out of the car, arrested him on a charge of obstructing a law enforcement officer when he did not respond to commands to exit his car and sent him to the Orient Road Jail where he did not receive a medical screening, but was put in a cell where he lay facedown on the floor or tried to crawl using the one working side of his body soaked in his own urine, his brain choked of blood, 36 hours later he was at last taken to Tampa General Hospital and diagnosed with an ischemic stroke. He slipped into a coma and died within three months. His family gets 1 million. How
sad that we are treated this way by the people we pay to protect us.
