Commissioner Mariella Smith Fertilizer Ordinance
Last summer, when horrible masses of bloated dead fish were piling up on our beaches, stinking up the shorelines from Bayshore Blvd., to Ruskin, I promised to work to limit fish-killing pollution in our waters. Since then, I have been working with County Attorneys and environmental scientists to craft a strong ordinance that will regulate fertilizer use in Hillsborough County and reduce nutrient pollution to the bay and other water bodies in the region.
