Florida Man Shoots Cop, Invokes Stand Your Ground!

If there’s two things Florida residents know to fear, it’s anyone with a badge, a gun or both. These days, stories of Florida police kidnapping, raping, murdering or otherwise brutalizing unarmed people are so commonplace that “fleeing and eluding” officers has become less of a crime and more an act of self-preservation......more

Bookies in Tampa are now making odds on how long it will be before the state legislature either drops SYG, or modifies it so it doesn’t apply to police officers. Current odds are 26-to-1 on the latter by the end of the month, and 26,000-to-1 on the former through eternity.

TasedTo Death In Miami

Eighteen-year-old Israel Hernandez-Llach was an award-winning artist in Miami, Florida – a painter, sculptor, photographer and graffiti artist. He was armed with nothing more than a can of spray paint, threatening nothing but the wall of an abandoned McDonalds, when the cops chased him down, tased him, and allegedly laughed and high-fived as he lay motionless and dying on the ground. This is not an isolated incident. The Miami Beach Police Department has an appalling record of using excessive force......more>

Hialeah, City of Progress

The Hialeah Police Department has gone on a camera-grabbing, rights-squashing, charge-trumping rampage against citizens in recent weeks without any apparent fear of repercussions, proving to be one of the most power-abusing police departments in Miami-Dade County.
And that’s saying a lot considering the rampant police corruption down here.
The incidents began last month when a group of college students organized a “Harlem Shake” video, which is a recent fad where young people gather in public to perform a comical dance in costumes for the benefit of Youtube.

Four People Dead On I95 Over A Traffic Infraction

The Miami Herald reports that an Opa-locka police officer initially attempted to pull over the SUV for a traffic infraction. The SUV's driver suffered two broken legs in the crash. He faces four counts of vehicular homicide. Opa-locka City Manager David Chiverton told the newspaper that the officer, Cpl. Sergio Perez, "cut off the pursuit and did not follow northbound the wrong way" when the SUV's driver drove into southbound traffic.
The Opa-locka Police Department prohibits officers from continuing a chase that goes against the flow of traffic. The department also only allows pursuits in the case of serious felonies such as murder, rape and robberies.
In a recording of a radio dispatch, Perez tells dispatchers that the SUV had driven into opposing traffic.
This guy is all over the road," Perez says in the recording. "Now he's going against traffic on I-95.
We're going northbound in the southbound lanes."

Why isn't Mr. Perez being charged with vehicular homicide?

St. Pete Police Threatened By Pair Of Scissors

The mother of 43-year-old Arthur Dixon Jr. called St. Petersburg police on Sunday evening because he doused himself with gasoline and threatened to take his own life. At around 7:30 p.m., the suicidal man allegedly ran at Officers Devin Jones and Curtis Wright with scissors while they were stationed at the back of the house. Both officers opened fire, hitting Dixon in the torso multiple times. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center and pronounced dead at around 10 p.m.

“The police assured me that they weren’t going to hurt him, that they were concerned for his safety. He has no weapons, he’s never hurt anyone ever. So, they forced him out the back of the house and they shot him three times. I want to know why they shot him, he had no weapons and he’s drunk. He has a traumatic brain injury, he’s blind in one eye, can’t see well out of the other. Why did they shoot him?”.......Lydia Andrews, Dixon’s mother.
“Scissors are a deadly weapon, they can cause great harm. They can be just as dangerous as a knife.”.......St. Petersburg police spokesperson Mike Puetz

Florida Cops Kill Man For Public Intoxication

The man’s wife asked that he be taken to the hospital, but Lee County cops allegedly decided instead to “strip Christie naked, tie him to a chair, cover his face,
and then pepper spray him repeatedly, until he died.”

His death was ruled a homicide because he was restrained and repeatedly pepper-sprayed by law enforcement officers. But to this day, no one has been charged with a crime, and the state attorney cleared the sheriff’s office of criminal fault in the case.
