Rick Scott’s War on Zika in 14 easy steps

Whenever a new Zika case is confirmed in Florida, I will immediately rush to that county and stage a “round-table” discussion. If no actual round tables are available, I will settle for a rectangular one or (if absolutely necessary) a square one. I’ll invite a sufficient number of local office-holders and health officials to fill all seats at the table. This will give the appearance of harmonious teamwork. It will also discourage Sen. Marco Rubio from showing up to steal the spotlight, because there won’t be any more chairs.

Florida Sucks To RaiseYour Kids

SmartAsset looked at the 200 largest U.S. metro areas by 13 factors and found that Florida contained seven of the ten worst places to raise a child in both 2015 and 2016. The study found that Ocala is the absolute worst place both years as well. here

Diane Roberts: Nature has declared war on Florida

Tourist Beware! The streets of Miami and Fort Lauderdale flood on a distressingly regular basis; the drinking water in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties is getting salty; mosquitoes infect you with Zika; toxic algae in our rivers, lakes and seas will give you a hideous rash, attack your nervous system, and impair your liver. here

Zika Kicking Rick Scott's Ass

Fighting the Zika virus has become a top priority for Gov. Rick Scott, but the state’s refusal to expand Medicaid coupled with his record of cutting money for county health departments, health clinics and programs for special-needs Floridians has started to complicate his message that the federal government is failing the state in addressing the potential crisis. here

Rick Scott Letting Trump Take Our Jobs

Rick Scott was among the first to endorse Donald Trump and this week recommitted his support for the Donald, saying he is the jobs candidate, but Scott dodged a question about Trump's efforts to hire foreign nationals to work in Florida. here

A Looming Disaster In Florida

Florida is the first state to have confirmed cases of locally acquired Zika—meaning the mosquitoes that carry it are now in the state. That's enough for the CDC to issue a travel warning advising pregnant women to avoid the area of Miami where the mosquitoes have been found. So women who are pregnant or who might be pregnant are advised not to go there, but the women who live there are stuck. And The Florida GOP is more concerned with shutting down the clinics that provide what health care they do get than preventing this looming crisis. here

Rick Scott Talking NRA-ese

If you are thinking to yourself "Scott sounds like a bumper sticker. He is taking in NRA-ese," when he isn't mentioning jobs, he does a fine job of talking NRA-ese. The National Rifle Association absolutely loves the guy. A couple of years back, in fact, the NRA sent a message to members praising Scott for signing more pro-gun legislation in his first term than any other governor in recent Florida history. here

Florida INC. Adding More Toxic Chemicals To Our Water

Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is proposing a rule to ease restrictions on toxic chemicals in our surface waters, and the rule will have direct impact on our health. The Environmental Regulation Commission (ERC), a seven-member committee appointed by the governor and tasked with setting standards and rules to protect Florida’s citizens and waterways, is considering adopting a new rule, proposed by DEP, that would allow higher limits for dozens of cancer-causing chemicals. here

Florida INC. Killing Manatees

Manatee deaths linked to pollution have resumed in the algae-stricken Indian River Lagoon of Brevard County, according to state wildlife officials. Since the end of May, eight manatee carcasses have been recovered, bearing signs of trauma that has killed more than 150 of the marine mammals in the past four years. here

Florida's Culture Of Corruption: Florida INC. CEO Rick Scott

Florida INC. CEO Rick Scott has resisted clean water standards, disparages environmental regulations. Earlier this year, he signed a law that essentially allows  Florida INC. Big Ag to police itself when it comes to fertilizer pollution. And last year, Scott’s appointees on the South Florida Water Management District scuttled plans to buy 46,800 acres of sugar company land below the lake where the state had once planned to build giant retention ponds to store and filter the polluted lake water. here

Free Lube For Florida GOP Voters Who Like To Take It Deep

The ecological disaster in the St. Lucie River and the Caloosahatchee River, including the Everglades and Florida Bay, is a toxic warning to taxpayers and voters that they cannot trust Florida INC. CEO Rick Scott or his board of directors who have allowed poor water policies to poison and degrade Florida's most valuable resources.
-----------
Scott implemented his agenda of promoting big business donors by killing growth management, stacking the water management districts, signing harmful legislation, setting in motion a political ideology that has ignored science and fact, and killing responsible government efforts to address environmental problems. here

Florida INC. Destroys Tourism Industry

Tourists Beware

Florida Stinks

As bad as it looks, the stench is far worse, driving away motel customers, chasing off paddleboard and kayak renters and forcing residents to stay indoors. It smells like death on a cracker. Morgues don't smell as bad. here
