‘Forced pregnancy act?’ Florida House Democrats float symbolic amendments to 6-week abortion ban
The House is set to take up a Senate bill banning abortion after six weeks, with exceptions for rape, incest and human trafficking victims.
Though outnumbered in the supermajority Republican House, Democrats are floating key changes that are unlikely to be approved, but which aim to make symbolic statements about the legislation.
One suggested change, from Orlando Democratic Rep. Anna V. Eskamani, would change the bill’s title from the “Heartbeat Protection Act” to the “Forced Pregnancy Act.”

Competing abortion pill rulings sow broad alarm, confusion

Competing rulings by two federal judges over the availability of the abortion drug mifepristone are sowing alarm and confusion for Hernandez and countless other Americans who insist that availability must be guaranteed. Others celebrated one judge’s ruling that would restrict that access but acknowledge the battle is far from over.

Florida poised to pass 6-week abortion ban, House could vote next week
As soon as next week, lawmakers in Florida could approve a bill that would further restrict most abortions from 15 weeks to six weeks.
The state Senate approved the bill earlier in the week and Gov. Ron DeSantis has signaled his support for it.

St. Petersburg leaders vote against giving $50K to abortion fund for travel expenses
In a 2-6 vote, the St. Petersburg City Council voted against providing $50,000 in additional funding for the Tampa Bay Abortion Fun for travel-related expenses.
The Tampa Bay Abortion Fund helps Floridians who are more than 15 weeks pregnant with travel-related expenses for abortions at out-of-state clinics.

St. Pete city council approves resolution supporting abortion rights
The St. Petersburg city council has voted to approve a resolution supporting the rights of residents to make their own decisions regarding abortions.
The first resolution passed with a 6-2 vote Thursday morning. The city council also is discussing allocating funds to the Tampa Bay abortion fund. A vote is expected later on Thursday.

Senate passes 6-week abortion ban
The Senate has passed the “Heartbeat Protection Act,” which is one of the most restrictive abortion bills in the country.
SB 300, filed by Fort Pierce Republican Sen. Erin Grall, would ban doctors from knowingly performing or inducing a termination of pregnancy after the sixth week of gestation. This would represent a change from the current 15-week threshold, which legislators hailed as a reasonable compromise when they passed it last year.

6-week abortion bill gives millions to uncertified crisis centers
The controversial 6-week abortion bill will be voted on by the full senate tomorrow in Florida. However, part of the bill provides massive support to non-medical anti-abortion centers.
Under Senate Bill 300, anti-abortion centers will receive 25 million dollars in funding. However, the qualifications of these centers are questionable.
