Are preparing to put a very controversial hole deep in the Gulf of Mexico. Deeper than the blown-out well that spewed 5 million barrels of crude into the Gulf last summer. It will puncture the sea floor in Cuban-controlled waters just 60 miles off the Florida Keys, a protected coastline where offshore drilling is banned under U.S. law. here
The events on the morning of September 11, 2001, marked the beginning of what would become a decade of war. So many lives lost, millions of dollars squandered and wasted opportunities. Ten years on many questions remain unanswered. Were the attacks of September 11 a case of blowback, or, as President Bush professed, 'a hatred of Western freedoms'? And why, if the hijackers came from friendly Gulf countries, did the US launch a war against Iraq?
Was the global 'war on terror' a cynical pretext for neocon policy hawks and the vested interests of the military industrial complex; or a war of necessity against a new type of global enemy?
The term red pill and its opposite, blue pill, are pop culture terms that have become a common symbol for the choice between the blissful ignorance of illusion (blue) and embracing the sometimes painful truth of reality (red). Wikipedia
Not only is the man embarrassing himself as an American, and as a military veteran who supposedly fought for the U.S. principles of freedom and equality, but for an elected leader to spout the kind of anti-Muslim invective constantly streaming from West’s mouth is an embarrassment to our country. Nicole Brochu, Sun Sentinel Columnist
Be afraid Muslims are coming to get you. I remember the old days when it was The Red Menace.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida today announced it filed suit in federal court seeking to halt implementation of Florida’s new law mandating drug testing of applicants to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program without suspicion of drug use.
The suit, filed Tuesday, is on behalf of Luis Lebron, a 35 year-old Orlando resident, Navy veteran and full time University of Central Florida student. Lebron is a single father who applied for temporary assistance in July, 2011, to support his 4 year-old son. He meets all the criteria for assistance but has refused to waive his Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure and submit to the newly required drug test. here

“The Everglades is a special place where millions of Floridians, tourists, scouting and school groups hike, fish, hunt, kayak and explore. At this point, no energy company has even floated a proposal to drill in the Everglades,” Fordham said. “If there is any thought being given to expanding oil drilling into the Everglades, my suggestion to the Governor is quite simple: Don’t go there. Unless Governor Scott wants to unleash a firestorm of opposition from hunters, fishermen, conservationists and millions of Floridians who depend on the Everglades for their water supply, he should abandon any notion of encouraging drilling in this sacred place.” Everglades Foundation CEO Kirk Fordham
A group of Florida farmworkers and their allies will spend Labor Day bicycling as part of a journey taking them from one of the state's poorest towns to the headquarters of one of its most profitable companies in a quest for better working conditions. I have a question for Mr. Waffles, the president of the United States. "Sir, how long can you hold your breath?" This may be a question people everywhere should be asking themselves. That knowledge could come in handy as we draw in and savor that last lung full of breathable air.

When a friend suggested I run for office as a Green in June of 2009 I thought, “No, definitely not me.” I wanted to serve, but not that way. “Why not?” he asked. “I have no money, no backers, no way to promote myself, not the right resume, not the right hair-do,” plus a myriad of other reasons that I listed for about five minutes. All excuses.

Speaking of damaging the republic, Dick Cheney has a book out. I'm sure you've heard about it by now; If there were any justice to be found in this deranged country, Dick Cheney would have penned his pestiferous, self-serving little memoir by the light of a bare bulb inside the cell of a federal prison.

Meet Michael Stahl, otherwise known as "Pastor Mike." Stahl lives in Miramar, Florida, and leads an online church called Living Water Church, which we think is a fancy way of saying he hangs out a lot in a Christian-themed chat room. Stahl has proposed the creation of a national registry for atheists, much like the ones in existence for sex offenders. It's almost self-evident why this is a good idea,
but let's have Stahl explain it himself.

"Stop wasting our time and our money in these sham hearings and trying to overturn (Amendments) 5 and 6, I'm old enough to be your mother -- if you were my children, you'd be taken behind the woodshed, and I can assure you it would be a sharp switch I'd take to your hineys."......Vera Chapman
