Local Hero Mark Tillery

Tracking down Mark Tillery isn't hard. Monday through Thursday, the retired autoworker can be found volunteering at the Salvation Army St. Petersburg Area Command. He could be in the nonprofit organization's free cafe serving coffee to patrons. Or outside in the Garden of Hope, harvesting vegetables used in the Army's kitchen for its feeding program.

Steps Forward for the chronically homeless in Tampa

Steps Forward got its start two years ago after Tampa Tank Inc. chief executive officer Calvin Reed told then-Mayor Pam Iorio about a good homeless assistance facility he saw in Texas. In response, Iorio and County Administrator Mike Merrill organized a study group of a few local officials
and business executives.

Wasserman Schultz Is Wrong

Florida Congresswoman, and Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz told a South Florida crowd the economic embargo on Cuba should remain in place.
It's Time For The U.S. To End Its Senseless Embargo Of Cuba.
The nominee for U.S. Secretary of State, Sen. John Kerry, once held up millions of dollars in funding for secretive U.S. democracy-building programs in Cuba. Defense Secretary hopeful Chuck Hagel has called the U.S. embargo against the communist-run island "nonsensical" and anachronistic. Both men are now poised to occupy two of the most important positions in President Barack Obama's Cabinet, leading observers on both sides of the Florida Straits to say the time could be ripe for a reboot in relations between the longtime Cold War enemies.

I Hate Tampa Bay

I am not a big fan of the city of Tampa.  As far as I could tell, the only businesses in Tampa are used car lots, pawn shops, strip clubs, and medical malpractice attorneys.  The baseball stadium sucks.  Ybor City is where the clubs used to be, and it harbored some of the worst music anywhere........Greg Miller the singer of The Whiskey Daredevils, a group of barely talented dead beat no frills rockers.

What A Surprise

Hillsborough Denies Domestic Partnership Registry
Commissioners Victor Crist, Ken Hagan, Al Higginbothom and Sandra Murman voted against the motion.
Commissioners Les Miller, Kevin Beckner and Mark Sharpe voted in favor.
It is evident by the vote today that a majority of my colleagues are out of touch with Hillsborough County voters and remain shackled by the unbendable ideology of their political masters,”....Kevin Beckner
