Our Leader: Susan Smith

"We can't afford to lose more seats to Republicans by running former Republicans, or Democrats who otherwise can't be distinguished from Republicans."
Susan Smith, president of the
Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida. here

“We cannot afford to replace Marco Rubio with another senator who will stand with the Republican caucus more than the [Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth] Warren wing of the party,” Smith said. “Patrick Murphy is wrong more often than he is right. Wall Street Democrats may have settled on him, but
progressive Democrats certainly have not.here

Last month, 63 percent of the state's progressive caucus picked Grayson to run as the Democratic nominee and hinted that Murphy is too moderate. A poll at The Florida Squeeze has Grayson at 77% and Murphy at 17%. here

Grayson said he's considering running for the seat if another liberal Democrat doesn't jump into the race.

Pam Keith, Florida Democratic Candidate For US Senate

Left up to mainstream media, one would think that there is only one declared Democrat in the race for Marco Rubio’s U.S. Senate seat. In fact, it has been reported as such. There are some who want Floridians to think that Patrick Murphy is the only candidate that is in the race. That is not the case. Pam Keith is a delightful breath of fresh air in the staleness that is the Florida Democratic Party. here

Florida United for Care 2016

With Tallahassee incapable (to date) of passing a truly comprehensive medical marijuana law, it is clearer than ever that it will be left to us to provide medical marijuana access to the hundreds of thousands of sick and suffering patients that need help.
So I want to be clear on one major difference between the 2014 and 2016 petitions:

In 2014, our opposition falsely claimed that people with nearly any condition ("headaches and hangnails" they liked to say) would be considered a qualifying patient. We never agreed with that misrepresentation - and neither did the Florida Supreme Court.

However, backed by an out-of-state billionaire, they convinced a lot of voters it was true.

In the 2016 petition, we simply clarified what the Supreme Court said and what our intent was: only people with serious, debilitating conditions would have access. As before, a doctor will be able to recommend marijuana for a patient, whether or not that patient's particular disease or condition is listed in the amendment language itself. We could not list every possible debilitating condition and didn't need to: It's not more limited or more restrictive. It's just clearer. The Legislature has proven itself unwilling to address what 24 other states have, so it's likely going to be back on the ballot - and this time we'll get the 60% we need to win.

Please help support our efforts by making a contribution, here: http://www.unitedforcare.org/contribute
If you've already contributed, please make sure you have signed the petition (here) and, please share this email with at least a few of your friends.

Senate Bill 896 would shift the costs for moving utility lines on road and infrastructure projects from utility companies to taxpayers. Under current law, if a local government widens or improves a public road, the utility company must move or remove lines in the affected area at no cost to the government. SB 896 (and its companion in the House, HB 391) would shift that cost responsibility to the counties and municipalities — i.e. local taxpayers — for projects that are inside a public right-of-way and that are related to water and sewer improvements, stormwater/swale improvements, bicycle lanes, streetscapes, etc. here

"Corporate utility companies make large political contributions to legislators, while local governments cannot. The motivation behind virtually every bad bill can best be understood by following the money."

Ed Dean Calls Bob Buckhorn A Liberal

Buckhorn’s reasons for supporting the Obama administration executive order are aligned with other liberal mayors throughout the country, claiming it would increase local tax revenue, stimulate local economies and improve public safety by strengthening neighborhoods.
But Buckhorn hasn’t taken into account the cost of welfare, how it will drain the local tax base and hurt the economy, not to mention the increased costs for public schools. Liberals often play up the emotional side of the illegal immigration issue without stopping to examine the costs. Buckhorn would be wise to look at all sides of the ledger. here Is he talking about our Mayor?
