Patrick Murphy: Why Florida Dems Suck

Murphy's campaign has announced the endorsements from Amanda Murphy of New Port Richey (Shame, this blog HAD high hopes for her), Cynthia Stafford of Miami, Richard Stark of Weston and Mia Jones and Reggie Fullwood, both of Jacksonville. The added support gives Murphy the backing of almost 60 percent of the 53 Democrats in the Florida Legislature: seven in the Senate and 24 in the House. here

Please note, in a poll at THE FLORIDA SQUEEZE, he is in 3rd place behind Alan Grayson and Pam Keith. Is it to early to start taking bets on how bad he will lose to the GOP if he is nominated?

God Is Protecting Daniel Webster's District

Uber right wing Florida GOP
Daniel Webster
Wants Boehner's job. He could win support from the Religious Right, as he has, “aligned himself with organizations and individuals who advocate the application of biblical law to contemporary society, including wives submitting to their husbands.”

Webster has long history of collaborating with the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), a ministry founded by Bill Gothard. Webster’s speeches to Gothard’s group emphasized that “God is on his side and that God opposes his opponents,” he told participants at Gothard events that God is protecting his district to make sure that conservatives are in the majority. here

Rude And Ungrateful HART Drivers

Saturday this blog sponsored a team in
A scavenger hunt to raise money for
Teams were given a list of task, one of them was to get a picture of a team member holding a bus pass next to a bus driver. Our team visited the Marion Transit Center to try to accomplish this task. After talking to several bus drivers, not one would help us. We showed them our tasker, told them why we needed the pic and even offered to block out their faces. Still they were rude and would not help us. We checked with other teams and with the hunt director and no one was able to accomplish this task. May we remind these drivers that it is activist like us who fight super highways (TBX) and promote mass transit so they can keep their jobs. If you would like to let HART know what you think, please do it here.

Spacial thanks to:
The bartenders at The Hub, the folks at MF Arts Ybor for the use of their awesome space, Red Star Rock Bar, the man at Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe who let us in to get our pic of the two headed gator even though they were not open yet (Thanks for the offer Dude!),
La Segunda Cenral Bakery, Ulele, Mermaid Tavern, Nicko'sKing Corona and many more for being so HELPFUL!
And The Heights Collective for this awesome event!

Ben Affleck: Corporate Welfare Whore

Ben Affleck bought the film rights to “Live By Night” a novel by former Tampa area writer Dennis Lehane set in Ybor City during the 1920s and 1930s about a petty Boston thief’s rise to successful Gulf Coast rum runner. (Un)fortunately for Tampa, the absence of state tax incentives for movie productions “Live By Night” will bypass the original. Instead,
a fake Ybor City
is being erected in Georgia. here
Remember this when this movie comes to local theaters.

Florida Frackers

File bills that would prevent communities from regulating fracking.
----------
On Sept. 17, Sen. Garrett Richter, R-Naples, introduced SB 318 (aka, "Regulation of Oil and Gas Resources"). The bill summary is completely blunt about what it's proposing: "Preempting the regulation of all matters relating to the exploration, development, production, processing, storage, and transportation of oil and gas."
----------
Meanwhile, over in the House, Rep. Ray Wesley Rodriques, R-Fort Myers, filed a bill the same day that would do essentially the same thing as SB 318. Rodrigues' bill, HB 191, declares that it's the state's job to regulate all things relating to the oil and gas industry, "to the exclusion of all existing and future ordinances or regulations relating thereto adopted by any county, municipality, or other political subdivision of the state.
