Florida INC. CEO Rick Scott has resisted clean water standards, disparages environmental regulations. Earlier this year, he signed a law that essentially allows Florida INC. Big Ag to police itself when it comes to fertilizer pollution. And last year, Scott’s appointees on the South Florida Water Management District scuttled plans to buy 46,800 acres of sugar company land below the lake where the state had once planned to build giant retention ponds to store and filter the polluted lake water. here

Florida’s big cities have the lowest paying urban jobs in America, according to a recently released federal survey. Orlando has had the lowest median pay for several years running, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa-St. Petersburg and Jacksonville also were among the lowest seven in the country in 2015. here

Tell Majority Leader (and self-proclaimed environment expert) Dana Young to stand up to Big Sugar and stop the toxic water crisis facing Florida. The noxious algae – spurred by pollution from sugar companies – is choking our waterways, hurting our communities’ economy, environment and health. Young’s silence on the crisis is deafening and unacceptable.
Rep. Dana Young and politicians like Governor Rick Scott and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam are at the center of this crisis. For years, they have ignored calls from the EPA to monitor these water pollutants more closely while “allow[ing] poor water policies to poison and degrade Florida's most valuable resources.” Make no mistake: Rep. Young, the Florida Cabinet and their allies could have prevented this from happening!

Lefty, as she is called by the family is at it again. In 2008 Wasserman Schultz sabotaged and undermined Joe Garcia and Raul Martinez to help the reelection efforts of reactionary Republicans Mario and Lincoln Diaz-Balart. Mario's district had basically turned blue and when Lincoln decided to devote his energies to plotting to become president of Cuba, Mario skipped across the district to claim Lincoln's redder seat. Today he's been challenged in that seat by Alina Valdes, a physician and a dedicated progressive. And-- wouldn't you know it-- Wasserman Schultz hasn't learned her lesson and is up to her old tricks again... working against Valdes on behalf of Diaz-Balart! Outrageously, she still hasn't been removed as chair of the DNC. here
