Florida officials ask US Supreme Court to block rulings limiting anti-drag show law

The state of Florida is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to block lower court rulings that prohibit the enforcement of a new law targeting drag shows.

Florida officials filed an application with the nation’s highest court on Friday asking that the prohibition against enforcing the anti-drag show law only be limited to the Orlando, Florida, restaurant which challenged its constitutionality.

Local advocate says Narcan distribution will help bring down overdose deaths

Despite new numbers from the CDC showing fatal drug overdoses slightly down statewide from 2021 to 2022, some Tampa Bay area counties have seen an increase in that same timeframe.

Still, experts say the use of a now over-the-counter medication could help bring those numbers down by the end of 2023.

Narcan, generically known as naloxone, is a medication that can help revive someone during an overdose. Organizations like the Epicenter Recovery Foundation distribute Narcan free of charge to the public as part of its harm reduction efforts.

High stakes: upcoming recreational marijuana case will have far-reaching impact

A high-stakes legal showdown over the future of recreational marijuana in Florida is just weeks away, as the state’s highest court prepares to hear oral arguments in a case with far-reaching implications. At the center of the drama is Smart and Safe Florida, the organization campaigning to tweak the state’s constitution in a way that would green-light the use of recreational marijuana. The group’s investment is massive; backers like Trulieve have funneled at least $40 million into the group to get the issue in front of voters. On the other side of the issue stands Attorney General Ashley Moody, who, along with the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Drug Free American Foundation, has taken the legal sword against the proposed language, leading to a clash that promises as many twists and turns as a suspense novel.....Read More
