Corporate Welfare: Hillsborough County Pays $350,000 For 30 New Jobs

The exemption for NewSouth Window Solutions would save the company nearly $50,000 a year in ad valorem taxes and cost the county nearly $350,000 in lost revenue over the seven-year proposal. In return, NewSouth would have to create at least 30 new jobs in Hillsborough County. here

“This is a great story of a manufacturer expanding in our community,” said Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandra Murman.
Murman said criticism to past incentives stemmed from a lack of accountability. The NewSouth deal would require the company to create at least 30 jobs or the deal is off.

Tampa Bay's Culture Of Corruption

Many of the politicians who decide how many tax dollars will go to benefit Tampa Bay’s professional sports franchises are also accepting free tickets to those teams’ games.   Tributes also include beer, wine, liquor, and a number of casual food items such as burgers and Cuban sandwiches.  Occasionally, crab cakes and sushi may be added. And access to politically-influential business leaders is always on the menu.

Tampa Gets Screwed Again

Transportation impact fees developers pay for new development.
Hillsborough County: $770 for a new home
Pasco County: 10,000 for a new home
here

"The County Commission is now considering a major overhaul of the transportation impact fees developers pay for new development. For too long, the fees has left taxpayers burdened with gridlock and paying most of the cost for new roads. For the past two years, I have worked with Sierra Club and we have taken the lead in a campaign to have new development pay more of its fair share and to use transportation fees as a tool to encourage smart growth. This plan is a big break from the status quo."

Lobbyists Love Hillsborough County

They can come and go from the
County Center and face no punishment
for failing to meet minimum
disclosure requirements.
And here's what it has led to:
The fourth most lobbied person in the county in 2015 was "Incomplete."
The lobbying registry is the public's only window into who is trying to
 influence government.
And despite mechanisms for the County Attorney's office to punish violators, action is rarely, if ever, taken. here
