GOP: A Party On The Brink Of Disaster

From the beginning of the campaign,
Far-right nativism has defined the agenda. Here's why it could backfire—badly. here
----------
In California Prop 187 won overwhelmingly with 59 percent of the vote and Pete Wilson won re-election handily. But while Republicans were high-fiving each other over their great victory, the court issued an immediate stay of the proposition and the Latino community in California began to protest and organize. And they also began, in great numbers, to vote Democratic. The fallout from Prop 187 and a few subsequent anti-immigrant proposals decimated the Republican Party in California.

Florida No Longer Ranks As The Most Corrupt State In The Country

That is hardly cause to celebrate. Florida had ranked at the top of the list during the 10-year period from 2000 to 2010. But a downward trend doesn't mean the state solved its corruption problem, as Integrity Florida research director Ben Wilcox said. here

Marco Rubio Would Seize And Sell Off America’s Public Lands

Florida GOP Marco Rubio doesn’t like that militants are currently occupying a federal wildlife facility in Oregon. But he does like the militia’s main idea: Seizing and selling off America’s public lands.
----------
Rubio said that while he doesn’t support “lawless” activity, he does agree with the militia on its main point that federal public lands should be transferred to private ownership for activities like logging, coal mining, oil drilling, and farming. here

Florida Corporate Service Commission At Work

Commissioners agreed a $1.3 billion, natural gas-fired power plant proposed in rural Okeechobee County by Florida Power & Light — is needed to meet the demands of the state’s growing population.
The decision by the Florida Public Service Commission came after objections from a pair of environmental groups, the state Office of Public Counsel and the Florida Industrial Power Users Group. The Office of Public Counsel represents consumers in utility issues, while the Florida Industrial Power Users Group represents large electricity users.
Opponents questioned the need for the plant and argued it will hinder conservation efforts and slow the growth of renewable
energy sources such as solar.
Julie Brown, who formally began a two-year term as chair of the commission Tuesday, said the plant is the
“most cost effective option”
to bring more power to the state. here

No Welcome For Bigoted Pastor Jamal Bryant In St. Petersburg

He has called homosexuality a sin that's on par with drug addiction and gambling. He has criticized those in his church who accept homosexuality as "cowards" and called President Barack Obama's support for gay marriage an example of political expediency. "I'm scared of all these civil rights leaders and all these preachers kissing up to the president just because he's black," Bryant said in the 2012 video. "He's black and wrong. He's black and out of order." here
----------
He was invited to be the keynote speaker at the 30th annual MLK Leadership Awards Breakfast by Angela Rouson, wife of State Rep. Darryl Rouson. He said he thought the event could be used as an opportunity for Bryant to change his views on gay marriage.

Mayor Rick Kriseman has declined a request to give the ceremonial key to
