It’s a hefty price to pay, but that's how much money the district could lose from Florida if it chooses to move forward with its current online reopening plan. HERE
With anxious parents around the state of Florida debating whether or not to send their children back to school in the next few weeks, DeSantis shared a metaphor which is unlikely to provide much reassurance. HERE

You have four more days to cast your vote to elect Jessica Vaughn to our Hillsborough County School Board District 3. Early voting is closed on Monday the 17th. I truly believe that HCPS is ready to elect a certified and passionate educator who understands both how to manage a budget and parliamentary procedure. --- It's time to elect a leader with a proven track record and the experience of building broad coalitions centered around social, economic and environmental justice for all. It's time to elect bold and solution-oriented civil servants who don't sell out their constituency to reckless developers. It's time to put our students, teachers and support staff first and forefront. It's time to elect Jessica Vaughn for Hillsborough County School Board District 3!

Now she's filing required paperwork late and getting assessed a fine. I'm certainly glad she voted in this one instance the way she did but that doesn't make her fit for such an important public office. HERE
We are asking that our HCPS leaders roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes to open schools virtually on August 24th, and remain virtual until it is safe to open per guidance from medical experts.
--- CONTEXT: Richard Corcoran, the Florida GOP Education Commissioner, hassent a letterto HCPS stating that their plan to open schools virtually goes against his emergency order, which states that schools must open their campuses no later than August unless they have a recommendation from their local Department of Health. Under pressure from the state to keep quiet the director of our local Department of Health Douglas A. Holt refused to make a recommendation, even though the other doctors present said it would not be safe to open schools.
Email Dr. Holt daholt@usf.edu --- We the undersigned citizens of Hillsborough County fully expect that you will not open school campuses against medical advice, and we will hold you to that expectation as we closely monitor the upcoming emergency board meeting. HCPS must act swiftly to meet the requirements outlined in the Education Commissioner's letter, if that's what it takes to keep our community safe. Change the original plan and resubmit to the FL DOE- do not let our staff and students become part of a dangerous political experiment which will result in a revolving door of school closures and leave our most vulnerable open to illness and death.
