Lake County School Board Member Debbie Stivender

After decades of allowing cheerleaders to wear skimpy skirts and sleeveless tops to class on game days, some Central Florida schools are cracking down and requiring the uniforms to meet strict dress codes. In Lake County, cheerleaders with uniforms too skimpy for the code are being asked to wear long shorts or pants under their skirts and a T-shirt under the sleeveless tops,
according to a district memo.

"During the educational portion of the day, they have to meet the dress code just like every other student," said School Board Chairwoman Debbie Stivender,

who ordered the staff to bring the outfits into dress code compliance.

No Pimps In Tallahassee

I saw whores in Tallahassee. I knew where they walked. I knew where they worked and played. But guess what? I have never, ever, seen a pimp in Florida’s Capitol City! I wondered to myself, how could this be? Not one single "Tallahassee Slim," "Big Bend Ice," "Southside Superfly," or "Dynamite Leon" could be found.

Then it was explained to me and the phenomenon became very clear. In some places, the police are the pimps. The governments are the gangsters. The banks are the hustlers! In some places, the whores pay the police to stay out of jail and they pay the judges to get lenient sentences.

St. Pete City Council Member Steve Kornell

"In the Congo armed militias use rape as a tool of war. Militias are funded by the proceeds from minerals that are mined there. These minerals are used in cell phones, laptop computers and other consumer electronics. Today, in committee we passed a policy that will allow us to consider the use of minerals from the Congo in our purchasing decisions. It passed to the full council by a 3-1 vote. If passed, St. Petersburg will be the first municipality in the U.S. with such a policy."

Please send a very simple email of support right now -- as in "To All Council Members: Please vote for the conflict minerals resolution" -- to council@stpete.org. Or, if you want to speak on the record, get to city hall -- 175 5th St. N, St. Pete -- by 2:30pm on Thurs,
