Tampa Community Focuses On Energy Efficiency

An affordable townhome community planned for Tampa is expected to be one of the first in the nation to achieve a top-tier rating for energy efficiency, reducing usage by more than 45 percent. The 57-home Westshore Landings One, expected to be complete in 2010, is a joint effort between TECO Energy’s Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas in cooperation with the Westshore Community Development Corp.

Happy Jesus Christ Day

"Before Santa and presents and shopping and all the attendant Christmas (stuff) got involved, this holiday was enshrined to commemorate a guy who got nailed to a tree for daring to tell people to be kind to one another. If you have two cloaks, He said, give one away. Remember those who have less than you, be charitable, be good, be merciful."......William Rivers Pitt

Pirates Cove: Homeless In Paradise

DO NOT ENTER!!!
Danger!! Stop Now! or else. Thank you" reads a sign aimed at visitors who venture down a wooded path, through pines and palmetto, to a clearing behind a drugstore and a busy intersection. The path leads to Pirates Cove, where, in a circle of tents and tarps, a few members of Southwest Florida's growing homeless population try to survive the downturn in an outdoor existence reminiscent of pioneer life.

Is Dick Greco A Democrat?

During the past year, Greco has been quietly building a coalition of business, civic and political allies to back his bid, including GOP fundraiser and longtime friend Al Austin, philanthropist and businessman David Straz and John Sykes of Sykes Enterprises.

To run his campaign, Greco, a Democrat(?) who has supported Republicans, including Jeb Bush and George W. Bush, has also enlisted entrenched Republicans, presumably to siphon potential votes from Rose Ferlita, the only Republican in the nonpartisan race.

They include former state Rep. Trey Travesia, a conservative known for his anti-abortion stance, and Cameron Ross, who served as a campaign manager for Mike Prendergast, who lost a bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, in the Nov. 2 elections. Greg Truax, a Tampa-based Republican activist who worked on former Gov. Charlie Crist’s gubernatorial and congressional bids, is also working on Greco’s campaign.

Kelly Benjamin For Tampa City Council

Today, the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections office validated a portion of the over 1000 petition signatures needed to nominate my name to appear on the ballot for the Tampa City Council, District 6. I could not have done this without the hard work and selfless dedication of several residents in District 6 who envision a new future and improved representation on the Tampa City Council.

Villages For The Homeless

Today on BBC World Update, which will also be aired on NPR, Dan Damon presents a program on homelessness, which includes a segment on the proposed Tiger Bay Village, a pedestrian village for the homeless that would consolidate most of the two dozen homeless agencies in Volusia and Flagler counties and provide a permanent solution to adult homelessness. The county-owned land, already zoned for group homes, is next to an existing drug rehab center.

Michael E. Arth has donated his design services. An engineering firm has offered to do the civil engineering for free, and one person has offered to donate her entire estate for its funding.

Tampa's Mystery Monkey For Mayor

I’m a life-long primate who believes that the citizens of Tampa need to swing free of the norm and vote for orangachange in 2011. That’s why I am running for Mayor.

"My testament: Some people (the government sponsored media) will say I was evil, a monster (V) . . . no . . . I was just born poor in a country where the Wealthy manipulate, use, abuse, and economically enslave 95 percent of the population. Rich Republicans, Rich Democrats . . . same-same . . . rich . . . they take turns fleecing us . . . our few dollars . . . pyramiding the wealth for themselves.".....Clay Duke

WMNF Antenna Move

Because of a required tower construction project in January at our transmitter site in Riverview, WMNF will be operating at much lower power, reaching far fewer listeners. This work may cause us to be at low power for several weeks to a month or more.

Republican Mark Sharpe

Mr. Sharpe, i thought you guys were for less government? I see the homeless everyday. I give them money, take their picture, and post them on this blog. I agree something has to be done.
But not what you are proposing.

"My question to Mark Sharpe and his supporters. Why is your solution to create more laws, criminalize more behavior, and increase the burden on an understaffed and underfunded police department, instead of looking to municipalities that have actually implemented programs that reduce costs and get the chronic homeless off the streets?".....Re/Creating Tampa
