Tampa Light Rail On HART Agenda Again

Light rail is not dead in Hillsborough County. What's dead, for now at least, is the sales tax that would have paid for it. Plenty of people who had hoped to pick up shovels and join in the groundbreaking for Tampa's first light rail line are instead meeting Monday to find a way to keep the project moving.

Jordan Swanson: Proud Of Being An Idiot

Don't You Have To Be Smart To Get Into UCF
To be honest, I did not vote in the Nov. 2 elections, but I had good reason for not doing so. I couldn't decide which of the two top running candidates was best suited for the position of governor of Florida.

I learned most of what I know about them through watching their numerous campaign ads on TV.

Multiple Lab Tests Confirm Oil In Gulf Seafood

The federal government is going out of its way to assure the public that seafood pulled from recently reopened Gulf of Mexico waters is safe to consume,
in spite of the largest accidental release of crude oil in America's history.

However, testing methodologies used by the government to deem areas of water safe for commercial fishing are woefully inadequate and permit high levels of toxic compounds to slip into the human food chain, according to a series of scientific and medical professionals interviewed by Raw Story.

Florida's Rocket Docket

Courts Helping Banks Screw Over Homeowners
The state of Florida has created a special super-high-speed housing court with a specific mandate to rubber-stamp the legally dicey foreclosures by corporate mortgage pushers like Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan Chase. This "rocket docket," as it is called in town, is presided over by retired judges who seem to have no clue about the insanely complex financial instruments they are ruling on.

Keep Nancy Pelosi

In a fresh sign of turmoil among defeated Democrats, a growing number of the rank and file say they won't support House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a politically symbolic roll call when the new Congress meets in January.

Cigar City Brewing’s Tasting Room

Threatened By Gwen Miller, Thomas Scott And Curtis Stokes.
Cigar City opened a tasting room last year to much success. By being able to extend their hours of operation and sell and serve beer on premises, this local business was able to increase its employee count from 2 to 22. Now they are facing a huge problem. Three members of Tampa City Council have voted to not make the wet-zoning permanent, which would essentially force the closing of the Tasting Room.

here

So as the citizenry, we have a responsibility to make our voices heard. Tell the Tampa City Council not to vote for killing jobs. Tell them not to vote for limiting growth. Tell them to reward success and not punish it.

And Tell Charlie Miranda To Show Up For Work!
Thank You Mary Mulhern, Yvonne Yolie Capin And Joseph Caetano.
Update: Lisa From Cigar City Magazine Heard From A Good Source That Gwen Miller Voted No Because Of Joe Redner Sr. His Son Joey Redner Is Founder And Owner Of Cigar City. If This Is The Case Ms. Miller Doesn't Need To Be Voting At All.

The Reign of Right-Wing Primetime

According to months of data from leading media-research company Experian Simmons, viewers who vote Republican and identify themselves as conservative are more likely than Democrats to love the biggest hits on TV. Of the top 10 broadcast shows on TV in the spring, nine were ranked more favorably by viewers who identify themselves as Republican. Liberals appreciate many of the same shows, mind you. But their devotion typically is not quite as strong as right-wingers, and Dems are more likely to prefer modestly rated titles.

Ken Hagan "Blown Away"

At this morning’s Hillsborough County Commissioner’s meeting, board member
Mark Sharpe presented Ken Hagan with a token of appreciation for
his leadership, integrity and excellent service over the last year.
Hagan, who played baseball at the University of Florida and has played and loved baseball most of his life, was “blown away” by the gesture and seemed genuinely very honored to be receiving the recognition. Hagan was given a Louisville slugger baseball bat signed by each of his fellow commissioners.

Hardened Criminal Barbers In Orlando

Sheriff Jerry L. Demings
Armed Orange County deputies, including narcotics agents, stormed barbershops in the Pine Hills area of Orange County, handcuffing barbers in front of customers during a busy back-to-school weekend. The shops were predominantly black and Hispanic owned. The operations were conducted without warrants, under the authority of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspectors, who can enter salons at will.
