Caregivers are NOT drug dealers
The No on 2 Propaganda machine has bought even more air time to tell
Floridians that the people who take care of family and friends with serious
illnesses and injuries are the equivalent of drug dealers.
They're lumping caregivers - kind souls that try to help people
with Cancer, MS, paralysis, ALS, and epilepsy - into the same bucket as felons,
and outright lying
about what the actual ballot language says.
We don't have their casino and pharmaceutical money - but we have an army of
supporters to help us fight back.
Only 30 days left boys and girls, time to step it up.
Tell Republicans: PROTECT the RIGHT TO VOTE
In states across the nation, Republican Governors and legislatures are making it harder and harder for people to cast a ballot. In our democracy, that is simply unacceptable.
Today we're calling on Republicans everywhere to STOP making it harder for people -- whoever they are, wherever they live -- to vote.

I have to tell you, I'm mad as hell.
In the No on 2 folks' latest ad -
they go after CAREGIVERS. They use scare tactics to demonize caregivers - the
people who take on the daunting task of caring for their friends and family
members who can't care for themselves. Guys like Robert Jordan - who gets busted
for taking care of his wife Cathy, with ALS. Or guys like me - who risked jail
to bring relief to his father and brother.
It's offensive, tone-deaf, and
yet - they're blasting it out everywhere with millions of dollars behind
it.
Join with me and let's show our outrage:

More Florida GOP BS
Health insurance costs for Floridians are up 30 percent or more.
Florida GOP on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 in a TV ad
United for Care Responds to No on 2's "Not What It Seems" Television Spot
United for Care, the main organization advocating for passage of Amendment 2,
is responding to the No on 2 campaign's first television :30 second spot
entitled "Not What it Seems." The spot criticizes Amendment 2's provisions
allowing for caregivers who would assist gravely ill Floridians in securing and
administering medical marijuana as recommended by their physicians.
"For the No on 2 campaign to use its first television spot to attack
caregivers in Florida is beyond outrageous," said Ben Pollara, Campaign Manager
at United for Care. "It is obvious that all of their other specious arguments
have failed to garner public support, so they've turned to casting undue
suspicion and aspersions on those who sacrifice their lives every day to care
for the sick and suffering. We are all literally speechless."
Bob Jordan, who has used medical marijuana to take care of his wife Cathy, an
ALS sufferer for almost 30 years, was confused by the spot’s assertions.
“I'm not a politician so maybe that's why this doesn't make sense,” said Bob
Jordan. “What I’m hearing is that my wife should stay a criminal because
otherwise I'll become a criminal. I just don't get it. Why should either of us
be criminals?”
"The contrast between our campaigns could not be more stark, said Ben
Pollara. “They are looking to criminalize the patients and those who would offer
them comfort while we are looking to enable compassionate care for the
suffering."
"I think their ad will fall flat, no doubt about it," said Pollara.
"Floridians know who caregivers are and the sacrifices they make, in fact
increasing numbers of them are playing that very same role today," added
Pollara. "Outrageous scare tactics like the ones displayed in this spot will
only increase support for Amendment 2 among Florida voters."

Hold Senator Brandes Accountable
Senator Brandes was the only Senator who voted against the compromise
Medicaid expansion bill – depriving nearly 1 million Floridians, including more
than 41,000 veterans, access to health care. Apparently health care for our most vulnerable citizens, including veterans,
is offensive to Senator Brandes – despite the studies that have shown that
accepting the Medicaid expansion funding will save lives, save money, and create
jobs. Instead of talking about his record on issues that are important to
Floridians, Senator Brandes and his special interest donors are sending out this
offensive mail attacking me.
Thanks again for holding Senator Brandes accountable,
Judithanne

Jeff Brandes Is Running Scared
This week my opponent launched a personal attack on my past. I want you to
hear the truth directly from me.
Ever since I entered this race, I have explained that I want to go to
Tallahassee so that I can fight for middle-class families. I explained that as a
working mom, I know what it is like to try to make ends meet and to raise your
family. I explained that I have struggled to pay my bills and for health
care.
The story of how it came to be that nearly two decades ago I had to file for
bankruptcy is one that says a lot about
who I am and what my priorities will be in the Florida Senate.
who I am and what my priorities will be in the Florida Senate.
As a full-time student in the 1990s I was the proverbial “starving graduate
student” – trying to get by on a modest stipend. Making ends meet in those
years was tough. These financial difficulties were exacerbated by the high cost
of health care insurance.
During this time, I was experiencing significant health issues. The health
insurance I needed to cover the costs of my tests and treatment was too
expensive for me to afford — almost as much as my monthly rent. So for several
years I took on debt to pay for the insurance. Without the insurance my medical
bills could have skyrocketed, and I was terrified of losing the insurance and
later being denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.
After the surgery, my health was better than it had been in years, and I got
a job with benefits. Yet, even with my increasing salary, the debt from years of
living on the margins was too much. Ultimately, I filed for bankruptcy 16 years
ago.
Today, I am healthy, and my family has no debts, except for the mortgage on
our home in Pinellas County. I am happy to say my daughter Peggy was born in
2005, and I had no complications, thanks to the amazing medical care I received
in
St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg.
The medical problems and financial problems I experienced as a young woman in
the 1990s taught me a lot and have given me a passion to fight for everyone’s
ability to access higher education and affordable health care.
For the millions of Americans who struggle just to make ends meet, the high
cost of health care can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. In fact,
medical bills are the number one reason cited by Americans when they file for
bankruptcy. According to the US Census, 20% of Floridians have no health
insurance, the 3rd worst rate in the country. We must do more to
ensure Floridians have access to care. Now you know why I am so passionate about
accepting the Medicaid expansion funding.
There are those who would prefer we go back to the days when insurance
companies made all of our health care decisions, denying those with pre-existing
conditions from receiving coverage, charging women more than men strictly based
on gender, or capping the amount of coverage you can receive.
I’d prefer we keep moving forward, looking for solutions to improve the
system, and ensuring that no one has to worry about losing it all due to illness
or injury.
I am running for Florida Senate because right now, middle-class families
across Tampa Bay are struggling. And instead of making it easier, Tallahassee is
making it harder for families to make ends meet, to find good jobs, and our kids
aren’t getting the education they deserve. Tampa Bay deserves a Senator who will
get up and go to work every day to support middle-class families who are still
struggling to recover from the recession. And, with your help, that is exactly
what I will do.
Thank you for your continued support, Judithanne

Marisol Marquez, spokesperson for immigrant rights group Raices en Tampa, said, "Today, we've had enough. Tampa won't forget. No politician was here to help David Sanchez and his family. The people who are here today are the ones really supporting people like David Sanchez.
