Mayor, residents looking ahead after Rays pass on Ybor City

"I'm very pro-development. I just wasn't pro-stadium," said Ybor City historian Joe Howden. "What the stadium would have represented for us is a huge increase in traffic, a huge increase in problems dealing with the neighborhood."

Both the mayor and Howden tell ABC Action News they're looking forward to the area's future, including the completion of the Gas Worx development, a Brightline station, and the possibility of other professional sports teams coming to town.

Ron DeSantis thinks pot is a menace to society. His biggest backer is working to legalize it.

Ron DeSantis is no fan of weed.

The Florida governor recently called recreational pot a “real problem,” lamented marijuana’s “stench” and grimly warned that “drugs are killing this country.”

There’s just one hitch: The person effectively running DeSantis’ presidential campaign is orchestrating a pro-pot push in Florida.

The idea that Rep. Matt Gaetz will run for Florida governor in 2026 has been the topic of several conversations in Tallahassee over the past few days, including during a reception Sunday night for the incoming speaker of the Florida House.

Florida's post-Roe v. Wade abortion uptick

States near those that banned abortion after Roe v. Wade was overturned saw sharp increases in the number of procedures performed, likely due to an influx of out-of-state patients, according to a new analysis from the Guttmacher Institute.

Florida has long been a refuge for people living in southern states with abortion bans. The state saw a 13% increase in the procedure over the last three years, based on a comparison of 2020 and 2023 data for the first six months of each year.

We're likely picking up patients from Georgia, whose number of abortions went down 18% over the last three years. The state's six-week abortion ban went into effect last summer.

DEMOCRACY’S END? Election deniers will oversee elections in 17 states

Right now, there are seventeen state election officials who are in a position to grossly interfere with the next presidential election.

And that concern is not even counting the states that responded to 2020 by making voting even harder, by cutting down mail-in voting, cutting down on drop-off boxes, and eliminating early voting like the “Souls to the polls” campaigns.
