Ron DeSantis vows to strip accreditation from colleges with DEI programs
If elected President, Ron DeSantis is promising big changes to American higher education, including moves to “totally blow up the accreditation cartel.”
During an interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show, DeSantis said embracing “alternative accreditors” would allow for social justice initiatives embraced by universities to be scuttled.
“It’s going to be, instead of you have to have gender studies or you have to have (diversity, equity and inclusion) to get accredited, it will be the opposite. We’re not going to accredit you if you have DEI and some of these other things,” the graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School said.

Former Republican House Speaker Richard Corcoran was chosen yesterday as New College of Florida’s permanent president after serving less than a year as interim president. The move further solidifies a veritable conservative grip on the traditionally liberal arts school as part of myriad of changes after Republican Governor Ron DeSantis appointed a majority of the Board of Trustees with conservative allies earlier this year, which ousted past president Patricia Okker, and replaced her promptly with Corcoran. Florida Supreme Court will decide the future of abortion access in the state
The Florida Supreme Court is pondering a law that could lead to abortions essentially being banned in Florida.
In September the state Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida v. State of Florida. It challenges the state’s 2022 law banning abortion in Florida past 15 weeks of pregnancy.

Families, people in need of assistance this holiday season can register to get help from Metro Ministries
The holiday season might still be a few weeks away, but the season of giving has already begun. In anticipation of an even greater need for assistance this year, Metropolitan Ministries is launching its annual holiday assistance program.
Registration for the assistance program opens Monday, Oct. 2 and will remain open for the remainder of the first week of October. In order to receive holiday food and Christmas gifts for children and teens, you will need to register this week. In order to determine if you're qualified and to register online, click here.
