Trump’s supporters are quietly living among us

Many Democrats dread Donald Trump’s sprint to the Republican nomination and console themselves that his voters are almost exclusively coonskin cap-wearing, Capitol-invading, racist, supremacist deplorables.

11th Circuit deals blow to DeSantis Admin on drag shows for children crackdown

A 2-1 decision by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday upheld a previous injunction that halted a new Florida law restricting children from attending certain adult live performances, such as drag shows. The ruling denied a request from Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration for a partial stay on the injunction, originally put in place by U.S. District Judge Gregory Presnell, who was appointed to the federal bench by President Bill Clinton in the final months of his presidency.

DeSantis’ lawyers had argued the injunction should be limited to Orlando restaurant Hamburger Mary’s, which had filed the initial lawsuit. However, the court extended the ruling to all venues statewide.

Global emissions from energy use to increase through 2050: analysis

Despite efforts to shift toward low-carbon energy, global emissions from energy use will increase through 2050, according to a new analysis.

A new report from the U.S. government found that population and income increases will “offset” the impacts of efficiency and lower carbon intensity.

The report, from the independent Energy Information Administration (EIA), said that while there will be some shift away from fossil fuels, current policies are “not enough” to cut global emissions from energy use.

Israel’s pledge to eliminate Hamas raises fears of what lies ahead

The European Union and United Nations have already warned that Israel is committing war crimes in its response to Hamas, pointing to Jerusalem’s announcement of a sweeping siege on Gaza.

Biden has avoided similar public statements, giving Israel space to target Hamas in what is likely to be a brutal military operation on the densely populated Gaza Strip, where the terrorist group has blended its infrastructure among the civilian population.
