Fabián Basabe proposes amendment to delete same-sex marriage ban from Florida Constitution

Same-sex couples since 2015 have enjoyed equal marriage rights across America, thanks to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling that preempted state bans on gay and lesbian unions. 

Two such bans, one in the Florida Constitution and the other in Florida Statutes, could be removed in bills Miami Beach Republican Rep. Fabián Basabe has filed.

DeSantis takes heat from Democrats for calling all Palestinians antisemitic

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ declaration that all Palestinians are antisemitic was blasted by Democrats including U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost, who asked why he didn’t condemn neo-Nazis in Florida with the same fervor.

“What a racist comment from a racist man,” Frost, D-Orlando, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “… The Nazis that have been marching up and down the state harassing the public [and] synagogues wave DeSantis 2024 flags.”

Concern growing over Federal Funding for Meals on Wheels


Representative Kathy  Castor highlighted the need for more funding for Meals on Wheels programs nationwide, not cuts, as Congress continues negotiations on appropriations for Fiscal Year 2024.

Pentagon puts troops on notice to prepare to deploy to support Israel: reports


Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered a select number of U.S. troops to prepare to deploy in support of Israel, multiple outlets have reported.  

About 2,000 such troops were chosen this weekend to be ready to assist with advising and medical support, The Wall Street Journal first reported.

Shooting people while they’re wearing backpacks has become all too common in the United States, but Ron DeSantis may be the first to openly imply that the backpack itself is evidence of criminality.

DeSantis has indicated that anyone crossing the border between the U.S. and Mexico while wearing a backpack would be shot on sight, has conflated crossing into the country with breaking into someone’s house, and has proposed launching missiles into Mexico, all in addition to his co-opting of Donald Trump’s 2016 promise to “build the wall” and make Mexico pay the price.

New Wellness Hub Opens in East Tampa!


The Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency is excited to announce the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Well, a new wellness hub located in East Tampa, on October 16th at 10am.

The Well will offer a range of wellness services to the local community, some services include, Health Matters Pharmacy , Pediatric and Family Medical Services, On-site Insurance Services and the Fight Wright Foundation, which will educate women of color through breast cancer awareness.
