LGBTQ advocates sound alarm on expanding so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ legislation into workplace


The latest proposed restriction on where sexuality can be discussed has LGBTQ advocates worried.

At a press conference on Orlando, LGBTQ business leaders and political advocates condemned a bill threatening state funding for certain organizations. They noted a broad reading of the bill (HB 599) would make it virtually impossible for transgender Floridians to live in the state.

Biden admin uses emergency authority to approve tank shells sale to Israel


The Biden administration has authorized the sale of almost 14,000 tank shells to Israel, bypassing congressional rules, the Pentagon announced Saturday.

The Department of Defense used an emergency declaration from the Arms Export Control Act to sell 13,981 tank cartridges, worth $106.5 million, immediately to Israel as the country continues its ongoing war against the militant group Hamas.


Tampa council proposes curfew for minors after deadly Ybor City Halloween weekend shooting


The Halloween weekend shooting in Ybor City that killed two people and injured 16 others has the Tampa City Council talking about a citywide curfew.

Under the proposal, anyone under 16 may not be out past 11 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and past midnight Fridays through Sundays.

The Florida Division of Elections website Friday showed 687,700 valid petition signatures for the measure, which is sponsored by the political committee Floridians Protecting Freedom.

‘Other than day one’: Trump supercharges concerns of dictatorship in second term


Former President Trump has supercharged concerns that he would lead an authoritarian government if reelected to the White House after he refused to shy away from the notion in front of a friendly crowd in Iowa this week.

The remarks did little to bother his allies and supporters as he dominates primary polls and appears on track to be the party’s nominee in 2024, while simultaneously triggering alarm bells for Democrats and some Republicans who have argued Trump isn’t bothering to hide his plans to approach a potential second White House term in ways some recent media reports have cast as a dictatorship.

Senate progressives demand Biden reduce Gaza civilian deaths caused by US weapons


A group of progressive Senate Democrats led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) are pressing President Biden and his administration to step up oversight of the use of U.S. military weapons by the Israeli military in Gaza to reduce the civilian death toll.  

In a letter to President Biden on Tuesday, the senators raised alarm over Israeli forces firing 155-millimeter artillery shells — unguided explosive weapons that have a kill radius of between 100 and 300 meters — close to densely populated civilian areas.
