End to the Bloodshed?

 Hello Stogie readers,

Per an article:

I hope the Israeli government agrees, the massacre of so many thousands of innocent lives is an atrocious end to the year, and the lives of thousands more depends on this peace. For each person killed by the violence on either side, more hostility is created, it’s quite that simple.

I am grateful for Egyptian attempts at peace. Now, let’s see the United States step up and demand Israel agree to the ceasefire, hostage swap, and unfettered movement of humanitarian aid to the butchered Gaza Strip. Maybe such action will avoid further warfare in the region: if that is what is wanted by those in charge.

They gained power by fear leading to anger leading to hate — the Likud Bibi government and Hamas, that is. Perhaps if neither play ball, that will finally elect a decent response in the respective electorate to elect real leaders like Yitzchak Rabin.

Shalom,

Asher

State governments are ready and waiting to strip citizens’ rights in 2024

The whole country has now witnessed a nightmare worthy of “The Handmaid’s Tale” unfold for a Texas woman, Kate Cox.  After a court denied the abortion her doctors said was medically necessary, Cox was forced to flee her home state to get care because of Texas’s extreme abortion ban. The case exposed not just one family’s heartbreak, but also the hollowness of promises that abortion bans can include exceptions for the life and health of the mother......Read More

Migrant caravan slogs on through southern Mexico with no expectations from a US-Mexico meeting

Under a beating sun, thousands of migrants in a caravan continued to trudge through southern Mexico on Tuesday, with some saying they expect nothing good from an upcoming meeting this week between American and Mexican officials about the migrant surge at the U.S. border.

The migrants passed by Mexico’s main inland immigration inspection point outside the town of Huixtla, in southern Chiapas state. National Guard officers there made no attempt to stop the estimated 6,000 members of the caravan.

The migrants were trying to make it to the next town, Villa Comaltitlan, about 11 miles (17 kilometers) northwest of Huixtla. In the past, Mexico has let migrants go through, trusting that they would tire themselves out walking along the highway. No migrant caravan has ever walked the 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) to the U.S. border.

BROWN SHIRTS: DeSantis’s Florida “state army” is training to apprehend immigrants

Ron DeSantis decided that Florida needed its own army, and because DeSantis gets what he wants in Florida, the legislature funded the state’s private army, one separate and apart from the National Guard.

Now we’re seeing that the true mission of the militia is the one that we feared the most.

Newsom warns efforts to keep Trump off California ballot could be ‘political distraction’

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) warned efforts to prevent former President Trump from getting on the ballot in his state could be a “political distraction” Thursday.

“There is no doubt that Donald Trump is a threat to our liberties and even to our democracy,” Newsom said Friday in a statement, which was first reported by Politico. “But, in California, we defeat candidates at the polls.”
