Blood banks need more donors as we face blood shortage


The Red Cross said there is a severe blood shortage impacting hospitals and patients across the country.

January is National Blood Donor Month. The nonprofit is encouraging people to participate because they are seeing a historically low number of donations.


Proposed citywide curfew for juveniles open for public discussion


On Tuesday, Tampa city officials will hold a panel discussion on a proposed curfew for juveniles under 16 years old.

This comes months after two people were killed, including a 14-year-old boy, and more than a dozen people were shot in Ybor City over Halloween weekend.


Sanders says Gaza ‘is worse than’ what happened in Dresden during WWII


Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza “is worse than” what happened in Dresden, Germany during World War II.

“If I use the word Dresden Germany to you, you think about the horrific destruction during World War II of that city. What is going on in Gaza now in three months, is worse than what took place in Dresden over a two year period. This is a catastrophe,” Sanders said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Border Patrol prevented from aiding migrants who drowned near Texas-Mexico border, Rep. Henry Cuellar says


Three migrants drowned while attempting to cross the Rio Grande on Friday near Shelby Park in Eagle, Texas, on Friday, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, said in a statement on Saturday.

Entry to Shelby Park has been denied to Border Patrol agents by state officers and National Guard members.


White House Staff Relocates After Pro-Palestinian Protesters Damage Anti-Scale Fence Chanting “F**K Joe Biden”


Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrated in downtown Washington, D.C., on Saturday to call for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.

Protesters gathered near the White House in the afternoon, many carrying Palestinian flags and wearing traditional black and white Palestinian scarves known as keffiyeh.

The protests are in response to Israel’s ongoing military operation in Gaza following Hamas’ surprise attack on the state on October 7, 2023.

The March on Washington for Gaza was billed as the largest pro-Palestinian demonstration since the war began.

The popular runway event at Tampa International Airport is returning for its 10th year, and it's almost time for competitors to register.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, registration will be open for people who would like to take part in the TPA 5K, the airport said in a news release.
