Biden administration announces new rule to protect workers from heat-related illnesses


Senior Biden administration officials announced a proposed rule Tuesday to prevent heat-related illness in the workplace, as climate change brings hotter temperatures around the nation.

In a call to reporters Monday, officials spoke on background about the new rule, which the administration sent to the Federal Register Tuesday for review. Depending on the heat index, the rule would require employers to monitor workers’ heat exposure, provide cool-down areas, and provide mandatory cool-down breaks.


Scam alert: Pinellas County deputies warn residents of a caller pretending to be lieutenant


A scam warning has been issued after the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says someone is calling residents, referring to themselves as an employee with the agency.

In a news release issued Monday, deputies explain the suspected caller is referring to himself as "Lieutenant James Perry" and is telling people that they have outstanding warrants because they missed a court date.

Judicial Ping Pong: Supreme Court sends Donald Trump’s immunity case back to a lower court in Washington


The Supreme Court has extended the delay in the Washington criminal case against Donald Trump on charges he plotted to overturn his 2020 presidential election loss, all but ending prospects the former President could be tried before the November election.

The court began issuing opinions at 10 a.m. Eastern.

In a historic 6-3 ruling, the justices said for the first time that former presidents have absolute immunity from prosecution for their official acts and no immunity for unofficial acts. But rather than do it themselves, the justices ordered lower courts to figure out precisely how to apply the decision to Trump’s case.
