Stogie Approved Progressives!

Hello friends!

I would like to add some candidates to the list of those who are Ybor City Stogie endorsed!

Sky U. White is running for Hillsborough County Commission, District 3. A Democratic Socialist (DSA) candidate, Sky is prepared to bring progressive values surrounding affordable housing and environmental justice to Hillsborough County! I support her bid for BOCCD3!

Julie Jenkins is running for the Florida State House, District 60. She is running to restore decency to the Florida legislature. She wants to fight for people with disabilities, as well as for Medicaid expansion & voting accessibility. I support her bid for FLHD60!

Kevin Beckner is running for Hillsborough County Clerk of the Circuit Court. He was a progressive County Commissioner who championed LGBT equality during his tenure. I would love to see him serve in this capacity given his extensive knowledge of the County and past achievements. I support his bid for Clerk!

Who else should The Ybor City Stogie endorse? Why? Let us know!

Stay groovy,
Asher

Kevin Beckner and Wage Theft

When employers withhold earned pay, overtime or tips that is called ‘wage theft’ and it's a blatant abuse of workers' rights. When I came into office as Commissioner, Hillsborough ranked 2nd in the state in documented cases of wage theft and I helped pass an ordinance that assists victims in the recovery of lost income. I believe the duty of every public official is to represent taxpayers and their hard-earned tax dollars, and I will employ these principles to the Clerk’s office to foster a stronger and more inclusive county.

Kevin Beckner for Tampa

"We have to elect leaders that responsibly use tax-payer dollars to serve our neighbors effectively and efficiently. As our next clerk of the circuit court, I will use my 17 years as a certified financial planner and 8 years as a county commissioner balancing a $4 billion dollar budget to ensure the office takes steps to rein in spending while still providing the services our county deserves." Kevin Beckner

2020 Election Quick Reference

I have compiled a list of candidates running in federal, state and county elections that will appear on the ballots in Hillsborough County. I thought this list might be of help to those who want to research the qualifications and viewpoints of the candidates before entering the voting booth. I have begun adding links to the candidate's campaign website, facebook page or twitter account as I find them. Just click on a candidate's name if you see that it is color highlighted. When I can finish adding links to the complete page, I will repost this article. For now though, I thought it would be a good place to start.

Coffee with Dave Cutler

Dave Cutler is a self-described rabid fan of all Tampa Bay and Florida State teams and a true blue progressive Democrat.

For almost three years now, the Tampa Bay native has manned the helm of the Hillsborough LGBTA Democratic Caucus with an exceptional track record in tow. During Cutler’s tenure as President, he has earned continued praise from state and local party officials for his dedication, hard work and grass roots political activism.

Later this month, the Caucus will host their First Annual Bowl-A-Thon on Sunday, April 29th. The fundraising event will be emceed by former County Commissioner Kevin Beckner and is expected to draw a large crowd. Tickets are available now for only twenty five dollars by visiting hclgbtadc.org. Cutler says that the event will be “phenomenal” and encourages the community to come out and join in the fun.
